Yeh, eh!! Very organised - which I like to be, if I can. I have a wall shelf behind my drill press and other stuff. Top spot to hang some drawers under for associated gear. This will clear up the shelves above my work bench! Thanks for the inspiration Dave!!

OK David, I've learned a few things more about my drill press that will help me out but when you showed that dust collection manifold, that was perfect. I've subscribed to your channel because I think it will help me set up my work shop. Great videos

Good to hear that someone has benefited from one of my videos George. I also run a livestream once a week for people to ask questions. There is a countdown clock on the page telling you when it will happen next. Check it out here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGeylKGLit-fhMU

I just built a cart/cabinet for my drill press over on my channel. 🙂 only one drawer so far on mine but I'll probably add a big drawer similar to yours. Good tip on the quill travel stops too! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Dan. The drawers save a heap of time looking for things that are useful for the drill press.

My work shop looks like i got robbed. But i'm still trying to build it, I only had space for a 3x6m shop, all built out of timber. so i built a veranda on one side to expand it (also helps with the rain) I am still building storage inside and have not yet found a space for the thicknesser, jointer or router. Currently sorting out electrical. Going off our house, i do not think i'll ever be very organised :(

Dave, when you do something you do it beautifully! I'm not a fan of the granite look, I usually use plain white laminate from our local supplier, bond and trim myself. I have my Router Table to redo in laminate, since I bought the UJK Compact Cast Iron Table in December. I'm waiting to get home to the UK to re-vamp everything in my shop!

Hi David, thanks for the video. I'm also looking for a replacement drill press. I'm currently using a very small GMC. I already have other carbatec tools and I'm looking at this drill press too. How is the accuracy? Is there a wobble on the chuck? Thanks.
@DavidStanton4 жыл бұрын
Hi Archerwin Makes! The drill is pretty accurate but this design will always have a minimal degree of error. It is not an endmill. I am very happy with mine. www.carbatec.com.au/dp-b550p?aff=3

Growing up we had a drill press that didn't have a tension adjustment. Changing speeds was scary. Good feature.

Does the new drill press aluminum fence have dust collection? If so, could you give a source for where it was purchased.
@DavidStanton6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. I purchased from where I work part time, @Carbatec

Hi Dave, My father died 30 years ago and I have had his Ryobi 5 speed drill press since then. The time has come to upgrade as I have pushed it beyond it's boundaries too many times. You seem to be impressed with your Carbatec DP-B550P equivalent so am leaning towards that one. I noticed on the video, you have the DPT-1 Drill Press Table (or earlier version) attached and commented favorably. I have made and clamped fences etc and feel that I am past that stage now. I'll probably get one of those as well at the same time. Question, How does it fit to the existing table? Does it bolt on? There are no bolt heads or anything on the top face of the table. I can't determine it from the description and photo on the Carbatec site unless I missed it. I know it says mounting hardware included. I also note you said the height is purpose built for your own height. When I was still teaching, there were some old metal framed school desks destined for the dump. I said "I'll look after them for you". I've made a cradle with casters that they sit in and I have mobile units. Still got to make some cabinets and drawers to fit into the frames. Might have to modify the height of the frame to suit the new drill press so I don't have to stand on tippy toes. Thanks for you insights and willingness to share your experiences.

Thanks Malcolm Lee! The dpt-1 has 2 captured nuts underneath. The unit is supplied with 2 wing bolts that fit through the drill press table into the dpt-1. I hope this helps.

Thanks David. Thought it might be something like that.

Hi Dave Thanks for another interesting video! I was wondering if you could tell me the power of your drill press and what the biggest forstner bit is you feel it can still cope with? I am planning to purchase one myself and want to know what specs to look out for. Thanks a lot in advance from the Netherlands!

How do you see where you are drilling when you have the dust extractor fitted? Also, I guess you could have made a countersink for the nut?
@DavidStanton7 жыл бұрын
I used the fence as a reference and the drill has a depth stop. It was only used for cup hinges.

Hi Dave, I am a huge fan of your tool cart concept. Are these the same as your bench height except for the drill press? Also I see you own a bench press verses a floor press. Do you ever find that you wish you had a floor drill press?
@DavidStanton7 жыл бұрын
Never needed more depth for the drill press. All of my carts are built with a specific job in mind. The heights are purpose built for my own height and also for outfeed onto my main assembly table and table saw bench.
@garykarczewski66787 жыл бұрын
Good points. I can see doing the same as you did. I was thinking a large DP but that probably is over kill for what I really plan on doing.
@Parkey69au7 жыл бұрын
how sturdy is the drill press. I'm currently in the market for a drill press and I'm not sure if I should get a pedestal one or build one like yours :)
@DavidStanton7 жыл бұрын
It is pretty good but the deciding factor would be the size of things I wanted to get on the table of the drill press. Benchtop drill presses have limitations in that area.

Dave, I'm a set and forget type of guy. What speed do you use most of the time on your drill press? Another good video BTW!
@DavidStanton7 жыл бұрын
The motor isn't strong enough to turn large bits at faster speeds, much like a gearbox in a car. Impossible to start off in 5th gear. I am afraid you will have to change speeds as the need arises. BUT, if you set it at speed number 7 which is both belts at the top of the cone pulleys, you would be middle of the road.
