To anyone going to basic: 1) Do the right thing (have integrity) 2) Keep your head low 3) Do not volunteer for jack shit (shitbags will manipulate their way away from work don’t be caught when the crowd runs for the crevices) 4) Always address your drill sergeant as, DRILL SERGEANT 5) Keep your bunk spotless and your locker in order (I managed to have my bunk and locker not fucked with the entire time) 6) Learn when to call at ease and when to stand at ease or attention asap. 7) If they give you a page of information they want you to memorize (weapon types, army values, etc) memorize a lot of that shit and keep drilling yourself often. If you remember the sheet well when they give you a quiz you will be regarded higher than the others. 8) Drills do have favorites. Oh I almost forgot: subbed and back to anyone joining, good luck. The best advice I was given the day before the bus was this: “Keep your head low and your chin high.” My mantra towards every challenge they gave me was: “Just fucking rip it off like a bandaid.”

I can't believe how night and day the difference is between army basic and what we go through in Marine Corps boot camp, unreal!
@NarutoOnDope5 жыл бұрын
The intensity of basic is based on your mos. The infantry basic at benning is more comparable to the Marine Corps boot camp.
@aoconnor29335 жыл бұрын
I've done both boot camp at MCRD SD and OSUT at Ft. Benning. I can def say that while USMC is a bit more intense, it is dictated by MOS in the Army. OSUT is significantly more intense than what you saw here. Pretty sure there's plenty they couldn't post, and same def would go for OSUT.
@aoconnor29335 жыл бұрын
I'll also say while Army basic/OSUT seemed more physical, USMC boot camp was hands down more a mind fuck!

It's been a day or two since I went to basic training. The video was great but you could fill a library with what they didn't show. Those thinking of joining, keep one thing in mind, the drill sergeant is there to train, evaluate and prepare you for the Army. Once you are at your unit, training and evaluations continue the entire time you are in the Army. Never forget that these drill sergeants were privates once as well so don't think for a second that you are doing something they haven't seen before. The cool thing about the Army is, you may start our as a private but in a few short years even you may be one of those drill sergeants... if that's something you desire and you have what it takes.

Long hours, a cohesive group of cadre, molding soldiers, numb to the off the wall things Joes would do and say were very normal for two years.
