Coach Matt; say more about busting the cutter and ride till they "go behind"; describing what you mean by "go behind" in the cut & return portion is what I am curious about, thanks.

Physically not allowing the cutter to cross your face, passing him into your help line (low I/high I)… then it’s a head snap, deny until they filter out, and then position in the help line

Huge question Matt: when it comes to the drive and kick phase, if a team uses a denial man-to-man, is it purely on the on ball defender to stop the drive first before the help defender from two to three passes away comes with the help? I just want to see how phase 3 is translated to a man-to-man denial defense

It just depends on your help rules… typically denial man teams would rotate from the weak side across to stop penetration… some plug gaps with their butt or stunt and recover. It certainly changes the drill, but it’s adaptable. Possessions wouldn’t be as long but you can still work the rotation. You could even start each rep of that phase with an advantage and rotation and then play live from there

Question, Coach H. What is your rationale for having help "open" to ball rather than "closed"?

Mostly a matter of preference because the defensive scheme is paint control and recovery based… showing chest fits perfectly with controlling the gaps. Thanks for watching

Yes, we didn’t use an actual pack line but it is in the same style - gap, recovery based
