Ive worked on cruise ships. Drink packages offered because they make a lot of money from them. I recommend not buying unless youre a pro-drinker

There are a few things for saving money during cruises Book restaurant packages. You can always save money by eating in the free dining venues. Book spa treatments on port days. Spas often discount services on days in port or during other slow times. Disconnect your phone at sea. Calling ship-to-shore has always been expensive. Look for drink specials. If you don't drink enough to make a ackage pay, look for special discounts. Bring your own drinks. Many lines are won't let you bring alcohol onboard (or they'll charge you a corkage fee), but a few let you bring on soft drinks, juice, bottled water and iced tea. (I read these and why they work on Arack ship tips website )

I went to an all inclusive resort, free meant free. Didn't pay for any drinks, coffee or snacks and no hidden service charges.

LOL! Your visual display gets an A+! We went cruising on RC 2 years ago and will be sailing again in Jan 18...so this was a great reminder to save the pennies ahead of time for drink packages. It was completely worth it! We were able to relax and not worry about how much we were spending...and we totally enjoyed a few top notch shots of tequila too! Cheers! Chin chin!

Norwegian often offers that as a free upgrade so in that case definitely worth it. I do not know the price for the packages on all the cruises but the ones I have seen it only takes about 7 o 8 to cover the cost of the drink package which is really not many when you are on vacation.

Love your channel. Have to add though that you get mocktails with the refreshment package as well as soft drink, coffee, orange jucie, and water. Great for people like me.

I recall doing the math with my wife and estimating that we would have to both drink 8 alcoholic drinks per day to make the package worth it. My wife has 3-4 drinks per cruise. I like to party, but I'm not going to spend my cruise drunk. I probably have 10-15 drinks per cruise. On a good night, letting loose and getting a buzz, I might have 5-6 drinks that night. I'm not going to have drinks in the morning because I'm not an alcoholic who needs booze to enjoy my life. And we get off at every port, so I may want to sample a local drink here or there, which doesn't count towards the package of course. I just don't like the commitment to forcing yourself to drink to get your money's worth.

Recently went on a cruise about 5 days after I turned 21! So yes I got the drink package. I had not really drank prior to me becoming legal so I loved the 15 drink limit of the drink package! not because of having a good time but because I was able to experiment and see what I liked! Example a bloody mary, I hate tomato juice and Tabasco, but I wanted to try one because I wanted to truly see if I wouldn't like it (spoiler I hated it) but I still had other chances to find something I liked and I did not feel penalized for buying an $8usd drink because of my drink package! I truly thought it was a good investment for me.

I've been on six cruises the only thing I get is the bubbly package when I go off the ship I go to the bar and it's a lot cheaper than drinking on the ship and I don't have to live in the alcohol but if I get the soda I'm okay with drinking soda pop and water

I'm going to my first cruise, Norwegian Bliss to Alaska this year. I'm not looking for alcohol drink, just looking for water. I can't bring water but has to buy water bottle package or soda package. I wonder what kind of drink provided on the cruise ship ?

I create a spreadsheet with the sea days and port days to calculate the break even point, estimating the coffee, soda, alcohol, water consumed each per person since some prefer wine over beer and there is a cost difference to calculate. It also depends on the promos that RC offers and if it worth purchasing. You must add 18% to the daily cost for prepaid gratuity. Cheers

Tea is free in the cafe promenade. I used it a lot to make iced tea... I am Canadian so thats what we call sweet tea if you are american. I didn't get a drink package in June because I was on my honeymoon for 1 and 2 we were in Europe. This time were in the Caribbean so it a whole different story :)

I'm Australian and we LOVE our tea (yes - even hot tea in hot weather) and I am very fussy about what types/brands of tea I drink, so it was more about having something delicious in the morning in our stateroom since we have a balcony to enjoy!

They do not take cash ever on a cruise ship it all goes on your seapass card and right onto your credit card..when you sign the receipt at the bar. There is an automatic charge to your state room of 12.50 a day to cover tips...just so you know

On RC Adventure of the Sea, coffee, tea, orange juice, iced water (in cups not bottles) and lemonade were included. Bring the allowed two bottles of wine (or hard liquor disguised as wine), drink when you're on shore and try to smuggle booze back on and you can save A TON! You can also pack all the soda/capri sun/bottled water or whatever that you want with you in your luggage no questions then use those and the orange juice/lemonade as mixers. Ask me how I know (I did it).

You didn't mention that if 1 person in your cabin gets a drink package then everyone in the cabin must also buy a drink package. So the amount of money just doubled. I honestly can't envision how the drink package would save money. I've only been on Disney ships where the soda fountain is 24 hours and free. (included in the price) . I will reply to my comment when I'm back from the RC cruise in February and include a total cost of the purchased drinks.

You should be drinking 1 litre of water for every 22kgs you weigh. On top of anything else you drink!! I wouldn't drink tap water on a cruise (or ever!) so there's half your package there! I don't know how much bottles water is on ships though.

Last cruise 14 night we got the package and we definitely got our monies worth. It’s not that we got rolling drunk ... well maybe one night but I loved not having to think about it at all. Tried a lot of drinks over the cruise.
