I agree 100 percent all 3 of them together is good

Ramin as usual exudes leading character material but Hadley? He's like the adonis of the musical stage, has never failed to give the audience a deep impression of the character he's playing no matter how short the lines are. Lucky to those who had the chance to watch him play Javert and Ramin as JVJ.

i know, their relationship just makes me 😭😻😭😻 and also ur completely right about nick jonas, i don’t think he was right for the part honestly in my opinion he ruins the 25th anniversary concert for me. his voice was too squeaky and teenage-popstar-ish 💘 but ramin and hadley as enjolras and grantaire is PERRFFEECCTTT 😻😻
@brianappleby51123 жыл бұрын
We were at this concert and it was fantastic apart from Nick Jonas. The only reason we could think of for Cameron Mackintosh casting him was to sell tickets to young people but they needn’t have worried it would have sold out four times over without him. How could they give Hadley Fraser a ‘bit part’ with his voice and acting talent, perhaps they thought he was too old for Marius? There were so many top talented young actors ‘ singers in the UK at the time that they could have given the part to. I still can’t work it out. Every time there is an ensemble singing piece in the show like this one it’s great until he joins in and then it’s Cringe time!

@@brianappleby5112 i rlly dont know much about nick jonas, and I think they could've definitelly casted someone better. BUT, i dont think he deserves so much hate here. Fair guess, not only he loves Enjolras but he doesn't love himself.
@TudorQueen2 жыл бұрын
Grantaire loves Enjolras (may even be in love with him). He doesn't really believe in the cause, but in the young man leading them. When he pulls away from Enjolras after the line "Could it be your death means nothing at all?" he is all but saying that it will mean everything to him. So even though he has a deeply cynical outer shell, he later chooses to die with his friend, in part so that Enjolras will not have to die alone, and also so that he will not have to live without him. It's incredibly moving to me, far more so than Marius mewling about Cosette five minutes after Eponine has sacrificed her life for him.

One of my favorite moments in the show is when Granitiere (sp?) sings his part. While a very small role, it is a very important one... the cynic of the bunch, he really sings the truth... what a waste of lives... "Is you life just one more lie?". I hate when that part of the performance is glossed over. I actually liked a lot of the movie (Russell Crowe not withstanding), but hated that they cut that part of the song.
@kino96437 жыл бұрын
the actual lyric is "Is your life, just one more life" which makes it even more sad when you realize that he's basically talking to Enjolras in particular in a remorseful way

In the official recording, where it shows all of E and R's exchange, it just gives me a lot of feelings. R attempts to leave and is stopped by the man he admires more than anyone else. They get into an argument that we don't hear, neither one of them rejoining the song. Eventually, R stops talking and just puts his hand on the back of E's neck, caressing his face and E just looks at him.They walk off before the song finishes, arms around each other. I love, love, love that scene of Enjolras and Grantaire, because in the book it says that he's cynical to his core, he believes in nothing... nothing but Enjolras. The adoration he has for this man is astonishing. He even compares him to Apollo and Achilles and i believe, but I'm not sure, with him as Patroclus? (I'd have to read it again) But yeah, they have something so beautiful. I 100% believe Grantaire at least was in love with Enjolras.

@mollypeterson65757 жыл бұрын
No he has a musical theatre background. He's played Gavroche, Chip in Beauty and the Beast, and Kurt in Sound of Music all before he's boy band career. Also he was the Marius on West End right before the 25th concert.
@mariahernandezmorales60387 жыл бұрын
His vocal type isn't adequate for Marius, it doesn't hold enough support. If they had casted a Marius based on talent they would probably have not have casted Nick Jonas. They could have casted Andy Mientus, Craig Mather, Chris McCarrell, etc. It's just my opinion though.

I have mentally blocked Nick Jonas from this show so every time I watch it, it's a terrible surprise he's there. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say maybe he's better in a full on performance - this set up is a bit awkward, so maybe he's not used to it - but when he's on stage with Alfie, Ramin, Hadley, etc. …the difference between him and them is glaring.

I read some comments, like the Zaftra's ones, and I copied here what 3neelh was talking about. "All those words: rights of the people, rights of man, the social contract, the French Revolution, the Republic, democracy, humanity, civilization, religion, progress, came very near to signifying nothing whatever to Grantaire. He smiled at them. Scepticism, that caries of the intelligence, had not left him a single whole idea. He lived with irony". "However, this sceptic had one fanaticism. This fanaticism was neither a dogma, nor an idea, nor an art, nor a science; it was a man: Enjolras. Grantaire admired, loved, and venerated Enjolras." "There are men who seem to be born to be the reverse, the obverse, the wrong side. They are Pollux, Patrocles, Nisus, Eudamidas, Ephestion, Pechmeja. They only exist on condition that they are backed up with another man; their name is a sequel, and is only written preceded by the conjunction and; and their existence is not their own; it is the other side of an existence which is not theirs. Grantaire was one of these men. He was the obverse of Enjolras. One might almost say that affinities begin with the letters of the alphabet. In the series O and P are inseparable. You can, at will, pronounce O and P or Orestes and Pylades." As you may see, they are compared to Achiles and Patrocles, Alexander The Great and Ephestion (Hephaistion). Those of the most know "couples" in the history. (You could all the research you want to about them and the other ones, I put those two because they are more known than the others).

What I don't get and can't stand is how someone like Hadley fraiser is in the company and Nick Jonas is playing a lead. It just seems wrong
@darkiee699 жыл бұрын
The producers wanted someone who "would bring in the young people". They chose Nick Jonas. (Like the play it self wouldn't be enough to bring them anyway)

Jarod Apple I agree but it should have been just a different Marius. I think Hadley plays Grantaire beautifully and portrays the E/R bromance very well
