It's funny how relentlessly positive reviews are conveniently overlooked, while negativity towards any Star Wars project is immediately slammed as review bombing.

I still find it hysterical The Drinker “ruined” Star Wars. The Drinker’s audience is infinitesimally small compared to Disney. He _can’t_ ruin Disney. Well, unless he tells the truth and everyone sees it. But even The Drinker persuading people to his POV isn’t his work but Disney’s.

The biggest problem with the whole bigoted narrative is a show like "The Expanse". @victorcates93303 ай бұрын
Even if something rises to the level of Art, there is such a thing as bad art or just art that isn't for everyone. Disney gets burned with The Force Awakens for taking no risks. Then it gets roasted for The Last Jedi for letting an idiot run amok. Given they've made the Jedi look bad, the only way to rescue the Acolyte would be if they have Osha present a case for the existence of the Jedi. As is, Jord and the padawan dying attempting to do the right thing is noble (if Jord hadn't been painted as a tool). And then they'd need to have done the character work to make it land. Otherwise, the Jedi being crap doesn't seem like it's going to aid the upcoming Rey movie. Was the acolyte innately a bad idea or was is it a good idea mishandled? If it was always an awful idea, then it needed to be caught and killed at the pitch, or when the thing was written. You don't hand someone 180 million and the future of your streaming platform and billion dollar IP and think 'I'm feeling lucky'.
@doomguy49453 ай бұрын
I'm curious how many of them are actually qualified for their jobs. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that the show would turn out this way if across the board people are getting hired to work on a $180 million dollar production without anything close to the proper qualifications. Experience matters, same as it does for any other line of work.

When I first heard all the bad reviews I decided I'd go watch it for myself, make up my own mind. I'm only very casually into Star Wars but quite enjoyed The Mandalorian. I got all of about 30mins in before I gave up. The hammy lines and overly Matrix-esque fight didn't grab me. By the time we got to the young male Jedi telling the protagonist her own backstory, just straight up info dumping at us, I was done. The other thing I have noticed, especially from the Disney shills is that they say Star Wars is "in a galaxy, far, far away," but seem to forget the most important part which is "A long time ago..." It's funny how they seem to forget that, especially since The Acolyte is meant to be set a VERY long time ago in the Star Wars timeline. Modern themes like Pronouns just feel totally out of place and glaringly obvious in a franchise that's meant to be basically a fairy tale set in space a long time ago, like a fable or a myth almost.
@Tiah-mm8lp3 ай бұрын
I never thought about it that way, thanks. I remember that George Lucas had been influenced heavily by Joseph Campbell (and of course Flash Gordon) and I took it to be a way of saying, "Once Upon a Time." Which I wish he could do a documentary on that TV show. The way the characters are written, even the villains are cool. I hope Disney could learn from that, they own the show. They also own Legend of the Seeker if I'm not mistaken. It was on ABC channel.

Despot started off with an example of Sabine going from a zero to force wielding master in a couple days but Rey did that first in TFA. Rey went from thinking Luke was a myth to successfully using force mind trick within the same time period of the Sabine example. And she did it without an accomplished force user to teach her even a single thing about the force. Disney SW was dead with their first film.

Still makes me laugh that people try and claim Rey isn't a mary sue. One of the best examples of it to me is the fact that despite growing up on a desert planet and admitting she's never left it before, she's somehow a MASTER SAILOR as well. Make it make sense.
@rahn453 ай бұрын
There was actually ways to untangle the mess TFA created: If the explanation for Rey gaining the ability to use The Force was because when Kylo did the mind-reading thing it accidentally went both ways, that when he was taking her memories some of his were going back into her. If the next movie started with Rey living out Kylo's memories via nightmares and it was interfering with her training with Luke that would have created a lot of opportunities for an interesting follow up to her sudden overpowered state. It was also possible to untangle the mess of why Luke wasn't doing anything to help out in TFA, and why Han and Leia seemly had abandoned their son: That he warned both Han and Leia that they would die if they tried to bring their son back from the Dark Side, and that the one that could would reveal themselves to Luke. Course none of that happened.

Yes, that's why I stopped watching Disney Star Wars. Rey was a master with zero training. That's "girl boss 101" in college.
@echoesofmalachor37003 ай бұрын
@@rahn45 possible after TFA, yes. But good writing doesn’t pigeon hole your story into those predicaments to being with. And by writing it the way it was you could explain Rey but not without diminishing Luke. It took Luke a long time to get to the point where he “thought” he was ready to face Vader and he still got his butt kicked and lost a hand because of it. He was far more accomplished at the beginning of RotJ than at the end of ESB and still felt the need to return to Yoda for more training. Face it, it’s terrible writing with little to no foresight or hindsight with respect to the original characters.

The only way to fix SW is to take it away from Disney and put the franchise back into the hands of true fans of the original Expanded Universe. In so doing, all the crap Disney has created in their Alternative SW Universe will be relegated to "Legacy" or "What if...?" titles and the O-EU put back into play. Just imagine a rebooted SW with stories adapted from the original EU. Proper treatment of characters, tons of worlds to see, new technology not seen on screen, an amazing amount of wild stories (and yes, some were not great, but even those are 100% better than anything Disney has churned out), and excellent authors that could lend their hands to the adaptations.

With the Golden Age of Comics, many of the stories were naive & simplistic, with variations on the themes of spirits & haunting. Slowly, themes evolved & became more nuanced & sophisticated, as better writers & artists emerged leading to the Silver Age of Comics. More recently, the comic companies got rid of the seasoned creators & employed people who were disconnected with the history of the subject but were, of course, politically correct. The people who are writing science fiction films & series now aren't themselves fans of the genre, which is why their work lacks any type of depth.

And then...we got stiff, cardboard performances. Hell, I even enjoyed the actress (Ariana Greenblatt) who played young Ahsoka in the flashback scenes more than the principle actress. This...abomination that they're presently running is just objectively horrible. I'd could forgive it if it even had internal consistency, but it doesn't! Neither is forcing any man on screen to be weaker, subservient to them and/or stupid. Compare the female padawan fights in Ep 5 of Acolyte to the male knight. He drops in 2 seconds after giving in to Osha at every turn yet padawan's equal to the Jedi Master who if the actor wasn't enticed from Korea for the role would've got the same treatment and still concedes to all the women.
