I think a lot of producers actually take pride in being completely ignorant of what the show they're producing is actually about. Like they think it's absurd and hilarious that so many people actually care what happens in a movie or a TV show. It's all just widgets to them. Product on a conveyor belt. And it's been that way for a very long time. The difference now is that the "talent" they're hiring don't actually know what the hell they're doing, after a generation or 2 of participation trophy culture. In some cases, they don't even understand the basics of storytelling. But they toed the right line, or they kissed the right asses, and "What the hell's the difference? Widgets are widgets. Who cares who makes them?" That is the mindset producers have been in for decades. "Let the creatives do the creating. We'll just focus on the cold hard numbers." It served them so well for so long, I don't even think they know to try and change it now, even if they could. I don't know that they would be able to recognize the difference between talented and talentless. The widgets all look the same to them.

Eisner to his credit at least was a relatively normal exec that enjoyed Disney and liked the creative side but those kinds of people are gone now. It's all money people that just joined on to make more money and might as well be pandering drugs for all they're concerned. Until they get someone in there like Walt or Eisner who actually enjoys the concept of entertainment that doesn't involved wiping their asses with 100 dollar bills and laughing at people who aren't millionares this isn't going to change.

Writers back in the day actually lived some life before getting big writing jobs for TV/film. The "paid their dues" as we used to say. Today you got kids coming straight out of the Ivy League or USC Film School who have zero life experience, but they're put on A list projects and expected to create good stories. Over the past few days I've been listening to complaints like this and they almost ALL have THE SAME things in common: studio interference and rewrites/reshoots! @@craigbrison4241 That was kind of my thought too! A lot of the "gigantic budget" flops that have come out really REALLY don't feel like they had that high of a budget coming from companies that have previously produced much higher quality entertainment for less. Peter Pan & Wendy is a great example of this. It cost them $40 Million to make? So, where did they spend it all? It obviously wasn't on special effects because this movie looks like a cheap knock-off of a previous remake! It wasn't on writing becuse they royally fudged that up to hell. It wasn't CGI because, what CGI? You can't even see most of the movie because it's so dark and drab-looking (most likely to hide the supposed super expensive CGI job)! Advertising? Did they really waste $40 million on mostly advertising? Because the adertising for this movie was even worse! I only know it exists because people on youtube were making fun of it. Clearly they didn't spend a cent on casting because if they get any more careless they'll just be throwing whoever into these roles regardless of the plot, original characters, asthetics, etc! They don't cast people because they fit the role anymore, they cast to start racist arguments.

I run a bakery and I see that kind of reasoning in the marketplace and it's wild to me. I think I'm pretty niche as a business goes. We're 221B Baker's Treat, a Sherlock Holmes themed bakery. (Home of the Sherlock Scone.) We do British treats, but, as we are based in the States, we've changed them a bit to suit American tastes. (Americans think actual British scones are too dry and crumbly, so we rolled to the Irish version and added a lot of fruit.) Okay, on to my point. There are quite a few bakeries that sell in my local area and at local markets. As I'm fairly unique and niche, I don't see these people as competition, really, thus, if I change my product, I do it because I changed seasonally or I'm trying something new or I'm branching out. I don't see what other people do and think, "I should sell that!" But it stuns me how often I see other bakeries do that. "Oh, their sea salt chocolate chip cookies are selling really well. Let's do our version." Why? There was one bakery where the assistant baker would come to our place every week (And every other bakery in town) and ask what we were selling and what our best selling item was and she'd go back and then they'd try to make it cheaper at their place. I just never got that. Play to your strengths, not mine. Don't chase someone else's successes, make your own. You are never going to be everything to everyone and the idea that you can be the last bakery standing because you now make what every other bakery made and shut them down is absurd. That bakery couldn't sustain making everyone else's stuff cheaper and went under. Eight years in, I'm still there. I have a theme and signature items. Changing it all up now on a whim because the bakery down the street is doing great selling cupcakes is just a mindblowing idea to me. And I *really* can't see doing that with a television series and a multi-million dollar budget! But people somehow think chasing the trends is how you make the money. Just let people do their thing and you do yours the best you can.
@Jaz-tk5vx Жыл бұрын
@@Laurtew Well said. Your business model is something from a bygone age, it seems. What we see in most places is this pseudo-capitalist mindset that you need to have the edge on your competition at all times. Bo Burnham summed it up quite well in an interview a while back when he essentially said "It's never enough. The shareholders will never be satisfied. It will never be enough money. It will never be enough success. There is no finish line. When you win and force your competition out or buy them out, it's not the end. You didn't "win." There is no "win." After that the shareholders will tell you to cut costs, to raise prices. Do it cheaper, do it faster, do it with less workers. The game is rigged." So many businesses are simply trying to become the next Walmart. The next Starbucks. The next Apple. The next Amazon. They think if they play a cutthroat game and take no prisoners, then it will happen for them. But it's just this cannibalistic system that rewards unethical practices. I mean, just look at how many resources and how much time and effort and money is poured into R&D for marketing. Literally trying to invent subtle and not-so-subtle forms of mental manipulation and mind control to get people to part with their money. Invasion of privacy doesn't even begin to describe it. Facebook and Google built their empires on the principle that everyone that uses their service has forfeited their right to privacy and volunteered it to be sold and used for purposes they'll never know about.

Honestly the Keaton fight was the best scene of the movie -- the rapid fire batarangs were peak batman. If they could recreate that in future movies, I think it would be much more successful than aiming toward the "realism above all else" approach they've been taking. I'd even take the (spoiler) they showed at the end if they have strong action scenes like this movie and Affleck's in BvS. To be fair, it has nothing to do with "she's not superman" or being girl boss. Kara was starved of sun until Zod got there; she would not have known or understood her powers like Kal who grew up with and understood them, and therefore was more on equal footing with Zod -- a general, and experienced warrior. Pretty clear Ezra held the movie back --both versions were whiney and annoying, but if no one knew Ezra's history/he was a new upcomming actor, I think most people would have liked his performance.

The thing with DC is they did copy the formula from Marvel and wanted their own "Avengers" but they didn't bother going through their paces. No fleshing out of the characters through their own movies / trilogies, or build. They wanted the "end phase" product with out building up to and putting in the time and effort for it.

I'm sure miller has misbehaved and hopefully he will be punished for any crimes he's done. That said, I agree with you. Most of Hollywood,for example, are extremist left wing crazies, is half of America supposed to boycott Hollywood over it. They'll go along with democrats no matter what, killing 9 month old babies, bombing families in their car... It's possible miller has been sexually assaulted as a child by Hollywood pea-doughs. If so, a lot of his detractors are going to have to forgive him and he'll need years of therapy. The hypocrisy of people giving out about miller but being silent on someone like johnny depp, who has committed FAR MORE CRIMES over his life than miller is astounding. Miller could be recast now regardless. I actually liked this film, partially because it didn't start too far from the flashpoints paradox. Barry ffffed up and had to undo it, a world was lost because of it. I think they could have address who did actually kill his mom, it was possible for him to find out seeing as how he could travel back... Why wouldn't he want to find out? Probably because they didn't want to introduce reverse flash. I'm glad they didn't

The Adam West BATMAN debuted in January 1966, halfway thru THE MAN FROM UNCLE's 2nd season. However, somehow, UNCLE's 2nd season started to get a lot dumber nearly 4 months before the Adam West series debuted! On the other hand, LOST IN SPACE began to get campier halfway thru its 1st season (and its first half-hour was on at the same time as BATMAN on Wednesdays). By the time September 1966 rolled around, THE MAN FROM UNCLE, LOST IN SPACE, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, THE WILD WILD WEST and the new THE GIRL FROM UNCLE were all going completely idiotic and silly to compete with BATMAN, while BATMAN went from "an adventure show with weird humor" in its first 18 week season, to a "sitcom with costumes" in its 2nd season! So even BATMAN was suffering, from trying to compete with shows that were trying to compete with it, instead of each show just trying to be its own best thing. The astonishing thing is that September 1966 was when STAR TREK, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and TARZAN all debuted-- and all 3 were damned good that year. TARZAN got even better its 2nd season.

The Flash was one of my favorite comic book characters when I was a kid. And for years and years as comic book superheroes began to more regularly have movies made about them I hoped I’d see him make it to the big screen. Only to find that they’ve cast a violent sociopathic sexual predator as the lead. Sexual, as well as predation of other kinds as well. That is disappointing enough all on its own. But to have the crimes seem to be completely disregarded by the studio?… that reeks of being a crime of a different sort in my view. Chris Gore's knowledge of the industry is amazing but he frequently gives mediocre/bad moves a (semi) pass because of small subjective bits. Gore often reviews movies from the perspective of a 13 year old kid who's just discovered girls and is showing kids a Victoria's secret catalog during a break at school. No Way Home was ass. It's genuinely one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I was raised on comics, and Spiderman is one of my favorites, but that movie was a mess. •The plot hinges on Peter, forgetting the same lesson he's learned in every single MCU film centered around him. • All the characters lack depth. Tobey and Andrew's films both had moments where Peter and his supporting characters are normal people with actual lives outside of being superheroes allies and villains. • The setup for the older characters is damn near disrespectful. Tobey and Andrew just walk through a portal. We don't know what they were doing in their universe or how their current life is going. • THERE ARE JOKES EVERY 5 SECONDS. They undercut every moment of tension. • It's literally just nostalgia and fan service, but it's colorful and fast-paced enough for people to not care. This movie is like watching the cutscenes to a video game I'd like to play.

@artvandelay8767 Жыл бұрын
You're not a fan of digital death puppets?
@KrazzeeKane Жыл бұрын
@Art Vandelay it's such a disgusting thing imo. It should only have ever been used sparingly, like Oliver Reed's part in Ridley Scott's film "Gladiator", where the actor unfortunately died before finishing all of his scenes, and so they very sparingly, and tastefully, used cgi to finish the final bits and scenes of his--and it was so well done many people still haven't realized to this day that parts of his scenes were a digital recreation. That's the proper way to use the tech, imo. Contrast that to disgustingly slapping a dead person's face over a cgi model for sheer entertainment. To just trot out a dead person back onto the screen for money and clout and "wow factor", its henious to me. You shouldn't be able to just use a dead person's likeness and voice and general image, for your own purposes of making money off of their image, and especially without their pre-given consent. Hollywood is messed up, man. What a world we live in

Fast forward to present day, with massive mega budgets and the technology with it's endless possibilities, and low and behold we get another slice of shit sandwich of "superhero" comic book steaming pile of garbage. For me the last decent comic book adaption was Dredd. I pity younger folks who have grown up on a steady diet of boxset where you need a billion odd episodes for "character development", CGI wankfests, snarky quips from hack writers and subpar "actors", "grrl power" and "The Message". In many ways today is like the 1970's, shit economy, war, an energy crisis, industrial action, inflation, but at least back then we had, at least in the UK, scary Public Information Films in between some decent television, and films worth going to see, while we all contemplated nuclear war, which maybe preferable than Kathy Kennedy, Bob Iger and the helmless Titanic that is the DCEU hellish vision of 'entertainment' today.
