@@TheBadElf Moore looked 89 in A View To a Kill and Craig was far more believable as Bond in NTTD. Moore was always far more reliant on his charm and quips to portray his version of Bond than Craig, and being 93 kinda killed that for him.
@TheBadElf Жыл бұрын
@@NickyDusse Craig's botoxed face looked ridiculous in NTTD. The Roger Moore era was over the top and tongue in cheek but was very much aware of it. Craig's era was just as over the top but took itself too seriously and Craig played Bond as if he was playing Batman. There was nothing "believable" about the Craig movies LOL
@NickyDusse Жыл бұрын
@@TheBadElf Craig looked pretty bad in NTTD I'll admit, but Moore looked AND acted like his age (79) in both his last two Bonds, especially AVTAV. That scene where he's hitting on that 20 something year old is legitimately awkward and entirely unbelievable due to the vast age difference. Also you obviously haven't watched the Moore era Bonds in awhile because to say the Craig era Bonds were "just as over the top" is insane. I'll help you out - look up, "pigeon double take, Moonraker laser battle scene, Moonraker attempts reentry, bond car flip sound effect, kananga death scene" I could go on and on but you get the point (in Moonraker alone there's such a preponderance of stupid shit going on at all times it's crazy). The Bonds of the early 70s to mid 80s (more so in the 70s) were *incredibly* over the top and blow the stupidest plot contrivances in Skyfall (super overrated btw) out of the water. Moore was only quips and charm, so when his obvious body double was fighting the bad guys, it was *far* less believable than a physically intimidating Craig doing his own stunts. So yeah, Craig imo was far more a believable Bond by himself, but I can see if you value certain aspects of Bond (like the quips and the charisma) why you would think Craig's portrayal falls short. But then I think of Fleming description of Bond as a "blunt instrument" and I feel like Craig gets the closest to that out of any of the Bond actors. Craig did have an overly serious take on Bond imo that I do agree with you on - if he just hammed it up a bit more and channeled some Connery I'd of liked his Bond portrayal a lot more. Dude thought he was James Wayne lol.

The Sean Connery and Roger Moore James Bond eras were unmatched. Great movies. RIP.
@scottknudsen66113 жыл бұрын
Connery is my favorite Bond, let's get that out of the way. But people who hold up Connery as invariably serious and Moore as constantly silly have to ignore half the movies to do so. Just as Connery got a bit cartoonish in "You Only Live Twice" and moreso in "Diamonds are Forever" , Moore started his tenure on a positively cold-blooded note with "Live and Let Die", "The Man with the Golden Gun" and, yes, "The Spy Who Loved Me". Apart from some ill-considered humor in the person of Sheriff J.W. Pepper these early Moore films are every bit as serious as "Thunderball". And damn if the Moore era didn't include some of the most daring and memorable stunts in film history, including the skydiving-off-a-mountain stunt in this one. I think the reason Moore is remembered as the Silly Bond (and I used to be guilty of this myself) is because when he did turn silly he did it in a BIG way. "Moonraker" foreshadows it, but "Octopussy" and "A View to a Kill" almost seem like parodies when I watch them now... though the stunts are still awesome :)
@mooseyman743 жыл бұрын
I like that Moore could switch between serious/humour and get away with it, also had class
@SmartCookie20223 жыл бұрын
Nah, Connery plays it straight-as-an-arrow in both YOLT and DAF. Sure, DAF does have some hokey humour, but Connery never sends himself up. As Connery said himself, with his Bond the audience laughed with Bond rather than at him.
@Helbore3 жыл бұрын
I'd say its only really Moonraker and Octopussy that are responsible for Moore being remembered as a comedy Bond. Moonraker is over-the-top fantasy and Octopussy has Bond dressed as a clown, but even those two movies have some brutal moments to them. Bond in "For Your Eyes Only," is about as ruthless as he's ever been in any of the films.
@SmartCookie20223 жыл бұрын
@@Helbore FYEO was originally written to introduce a new Bond, especially as Moore was refusing to sign his 007 contract again. At the time, Moore even complained about those "ruthless" scenes, saying they weren't very Bond. But hey, they still managed to squeeze in a talking parrot and Margaret Thatcher portrayed by actress and impressionist Janet Brown into the movie. That would never have happened during Connery's tenure. I could go through FYEO and point out all the silliness still present such as Bibi and a Blofeld-clone being dropped down a smokestack probably to no avail. TSWLM was the first real turning point to show which new direction Moore's Bond would be heading in, and MR, OP and AVTAK (Beach Boy's surfing and SanFran Keystone Cops) was its culmination. Even poor Dalton had some of it leftover with his cello sled down a mountainside to handicap him. However, I will agree that Moore's best Bonds were the 2 that preceded TSWLM, with Moore at least maintaining some degree of the dark edginess from the Connery and Lazenby era. TSWLM is mostly a greatest hits package of previous Bond movies, though it IS highly entertaining, I won't dispute that.

Daniel Craig as an actor is an incredible bond. Skyfall and Casino are both also excellent scripts that really aid in them being truly amazing. @Al D I think it was at least partly a change in tone. Up till then, Craig's Bond films had a more serious and restrained approach, suitable for a post 9/11 world more focused on the War on Terror, rather than the days of the cold war, with Soviet spies and ex Nazis. It also didn't go overboard with the gadgetry, and big plans for world domination. Spectre on the other hand, seemed to be almost a throwback to the 60s and 70s, going from terrorist villains like Le Chiffre or Dominic Greene, and past friends with scores to settle, like Silva, to underground crime syndicates seemingly able to control almost any government, and seeking to dominate the world. It went from serious and believable, to cheesy and over the top.
