wow I loved when you said "I converted to Islam knowing I wasn't fully ready to take on all the obligations of being a muslim. I knew I wasn't gonna be perfect but I became muslim anyways." There are a lot of people who are interested in Islam but are scared of the "rules" and don't want to convert because of it but you took that leap of faith which is really inpiring for other people to hear! Thank you for posting this video, it is actually the answer to a disagreement between my mum and I. She once told me a story about a Japanese man who wanted to convert to Islam, but as drinking was a very important part of Japanese culture he felt he could not give it up so he consulted the muslims who has been giving him dawah and told them he wanted to become muslim, but would continue to drink. They told him that he couldn't become muslim if he intended to keep drinking. I, being a born muslim who has never drunk alcohol, had the same opinion as the muslims in the story and didn't understand how someone could come to islam with the intention of continuing to sin. My mum on the other hand said the exact same thing that you did - that it would have been better for him to be a muslim who sinned that not muslim at all. Who knows maybe if he had converted he would have gone through the same process as you and his growing love for Allah would have helped him quit. It's a true story, but I don't know what happened to him after, I almost feel like going up to him and telling him he can be a muslim regardless even though I don't know him.

If anyone tells anyone they can't be a Muslim if they drink alcohol they're ignorant. Being a Muslim is having the believe itself not their actions. They'll be sinning if they continue drinking but it will be easier for them to stop drinking after they become Muslim. even when Islam came allah didn't forbid alcohol right away, it was done slowly in stages untill it was completely forbidden
