Drinking Expired TaB Discontinued Soda From Coca-Cola

It was my mother in law's favorite soft drink back then. She was saddened to hear it being discontinued back in 2020. So, my wife and I decided to gift her 4 12 packs of Tab right before it was discontinued for good. My mother in law couldn't thank us enough for that special gift. It lasted her for almost a year and a half. She kept one of the cans that is still full and is being displayed in her study room in a glass cabinet lol

TAB was one of the original diet sodas back to 1963. Even in the 70's it was one of the few choices. Interesting that the ingredients still said saccharin. That was originally deemed carcinogenic but then that ruling was repealed. But the damage to it's reputation with the public was done so most soda brands stopped using saccharin.

I remember, when I way too young to care, thinking TAB, in its vibrant pink can, was what pretty ladies drank. Diet sodas improved, but they're still chemical sh1t-storms. I shudder to think of the chemicals i've consumed; not enough of the fun ones either, dang it. speaking of toxins -----microplastics. omg! checkout AP News- spoiler alert: you might not want to know. Our post10 is fortunate to have pure water, and everyone needs to value it more. ( jumps down from soapbox {old-foggies know})

yeah the label certainly got stuck in a time warp. It always looked 80s to me. I recall the 6 packs taking up a small space on the bottom shelf of the soda aisle at Stop and Shop in Connecticut as recently as the 2010s. It was very limited inventory and always seemed like a niche drink. I'm surprised they still made it because it was probably the most niche drink around being that there was already Diet Coke. Very weird drink. Even in like 1992 I remember thinking it looked weird and 80s. I remember being unimpressed by the taste.

This was one of the only diet colas when I was a kid in the early 80s. Their commercial jungle was "Tab cola is a beautiful drink...." I was at at birthday party and this was the only drink left in the cooler, I tried it and it was horrible, still remember the taste. They probably improved it slightly from back then.

I drank cans that were over a year and even very few new ones and most of them were flat. It's pretty cool to see those have carbon in them still after a couple years. Really enjoyed the video, always something new to see and learn.

Yep, in the UK it was literally called "TAB clear" and was essentially colourless coca cola. It wasn't around for long though.

I tried it for the 1st time a few years ago. Just happened to see some at Walmart. And it was probably the last time it was sold in stores. I thought it was much better than Diet Coke. Similar to Pepsi Max/Diet Pepsi. Always remember seeing it in movies and TV, but never got to try it until its last days of production. 🤔

It's not poisonous but it's not necessarily good for you either. If you're diabetic or trying to cut down on calories, aspartame drinks are preferable to hundreds of empty calories from sugar. I wish more pop companies used Stevia instead of aspartame though.

Interestingly enough they still make tab. I know it says it was discontinued in 2020 but I tried some for the first time in October of 2023 at the World of Coca Cola tour in Atlanta. They have a giant tasting room with coke products from around the world including Tab. My review: it was alright.

Tab lasted DECADES longer than one would expect. They never much updated the label so it always looked like a weird synthetic 80s drink. The few times I did have it I never much liked the taste so I am surprised that you say it tastes just like coca cola. I'll never know for sure unless they re-release it.

Here in Europe AKA eastern California we tend to not use aspartame as much we did back a decade ago and saccharin is limited to use in medications like cough syrups, also it's sodium saccharin that is used instead of the calcium one listed in the ingredients of the can of TaB featured in the video. Same goes for the preservative, with sodium benzoate being used instead of potassium benzoate.

my first grade teacher used to drink like 10 of these throughout the day, each day in class, while treating us children poorly (borderline abusive sometimes). i hate this drink. i have never tried it but just seeing the can triggers anxiety and bad memories.

To me, Coke Zero tastes almost exactly like how I remember TaB tasting. It kinda disappeared through the 90's, but reappeared in my area in the mid 00's. I normally hate diet sodas, but I always found TaB pretty tolerable. I'll be honest, when I did drink it, it was mostly just because of the nostalgic can. :P

My mom used to buy Tab back in the 70s, before there was a such thing as Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. I was surprised to find it still around at a convenience store I worked at in 2009. It's very hard to find, but it's still around. Compared to Diet Coke or Pepsi, it has a very strong chemical taste.

When i was like in 6th grade my friends mom used to buy the either 6 or 8 pack bottles of diet tab. She actually found a piece of machinery in the bottle. I think it was a capper. She contacted them and they wanted it back so the gave her free products in exchange for returning thst piece.
