Big fan of the VC 56, seen it in real life and its stunning for the money. I like the fact that people don't like it. But then alot discarded the VC overseas when it came out and look at it now. Very underrated brand from the holy trinity.

Hi Adrian, The issue with the base 56 is not the Cartier heritage it's simply no where near as well finished as other VCs. The Geneva stripes don't roll in the light for example, nor is the anglage luminescent. It's not Geneva Seal, which is also not just a finishing requirement, but one of timing. VC were so embarrassed they redid the movement shots for the website to cover up the unused sub seconds jewel and recess; which once seen cannot be unseen.

I believe the only V.C. 4600e that is not “in-house” is the time/date only version. At least that’s what they told me at the boutique when I was fortunate enough to purchase my very own 56 on the steel bracelet! I absolutely love it. Thanks for all the great content and keep up the good work!

Dont mistake the VC fiftysix movement as a Cartier movement! It is a Valfleurier movement which was placed in a Cartier and in a Piaget watch. The launch of the movement was in a Cartier watch as the MC1904

Love the VC and the RD! IWC is such a cool brand but for me what you’re getting is not enough to justify those prices. IWC should be more at home at the 4-8k range than the 8-15k that they seem to be

For the RD Excalibur, actually those hands are set at the movement side. So you can see the rotor and balance assembly with hands.

Great video. Just a clarification on the Fiftysix though - whilst the Self-Winding has a movement shared with Cartier, the Day Date and Complete Calendar versions are in-house Geneva Seal movements and they are used in other VC models in other model ranges so no corners cut there at all. I have the silver dialled Complete Calendar and I find the dial to be more nuanced than the blue version - lovely though that already is.

The other 3 are in-house with Geneva seal on them. The date only 56 is a poor example to represent the 56 range

Yes please. I love my FiftySix Selfwinding. I have the silver dial and bought the bracelet in the boutique. Mostly wear it on a brown Vacheron leather strap but the bracelet is insanely good and comfortable and has tool less micro adjust. Also only the FifttSix Selfwinding has the Cartier based movement. All the other versions have VC movements. But I am with you. The Selfwinding movement is amazing and so wel finished. Plus the solid gold rotor make it very very elegant.

Nice move. I’m planing on doing the same. I like the blue dial but think it won’t be too long until all these blue dials go the same way as flares. May I ask when you bought the bracelet, was there a waiting period?

HOWEVER, a little bird told me that they are updating the bracelet and that it’s being send to the boutiques soon. Might be worth checking directly with a boutique and maybe that’s the reason if there is a waiting time currently.

Yeah the 56 range should be relatively easy to find. VC make very few watches, about 20,000 a year, so it might mean a matter of an AD needing to move stock to your location, but it’s certainly not as bad as rolex.

Cost. The fifty six time and date is their entry level option(lowest priced men's option I believe), and I think they designed the watch for the price point. I think the next line stepping up from the fifty six is about double the cost, but has in house movement. So there's a good chance if the fifty six was in house movement, then the cost would be much higher, and not an entry level option.

It’s just a Cartier base. Many brands use movement bases that aren’t their’s. People just moan about VC doing it because some people are fickle and some people don’t see Cartier as a high enough watchmaker for VC.

I tried that VC Fifty Six on two weekends ago, it was the white/silver dial on the strap and was gorgeous. Really glad I've seen this now as I'll take a look at the blue dial version and may just push the button on that to replace my recently sold 39mm Explorer. Great vid as usual, really interesting!!
