Little excursion into the jungle to get hammered on Sakau, the local form of Kava, but on Pohnpei it has it's own unique properties, and flavor. www.seagypsies.com en.wikipedia.o...

I was there with my folks in 2009 when the Village Lodge was still there (a thatch hut Lodge and cabins owned by a Californian coouple - their 50 yr lease expired & they weren't able to renew it so they are gone now). We tried the sakau from a coconut shell that they passed around - but not that much! And watched them make it first. We never did try the beetle nut. It's definitely a unique place

In other parts of Micronesia we use trees barks then we mush it up (but sometimes we use a blender) to mix it up and then we put it in a thin bag so that the sakau could come out of that thin bag onto a bucket then there you go. You officially have MY family’s sakau😂😂

You can tell that someone is drunk when he is driving really slow. High when he breaks like seventy or more meters away from an approaching ´light.´ Chewing betel nut when he opens the doors of the car while driving. Yep! That is Pohnpei now! LOL

Fyi betel nut was an introduction to the Eastern Micronesia Western Micronesia. Sakau was more prevalent in Eastern Micronesia.

I highly recommend the palarasul kava blend. It makes you drowsy and "out of it" and happy and it lasts for a long time. It's my favourite blend so far.

Where does one get that?
@drinkroot Жыл бұрын
@@SeaGypsieschannel We usually hold Palarasul in traditional grind and just started making it in a deydrated instant juice version. Keep in mind it's not often sold in the US since it's got to be trucked down from the mountains and it's popular on the island. If you're a fan of that, you should definitely try out Kelai too.
