SE1EP10: Join me in the heart of Cova Da Moura, Europe's last existing favela (slum), as I navigate its winding alleys and immerse myself in the local culture. From chance encounters with colorful characters to an impromptu pub crawl with newfound friends, this episode captures the essence of adventure and humanity I'm trying to portray in this first season of SSBD...

Totally agree with you, same with terms like ghetto, slum, hood etc... It's just that in Lisbon I was told it was given this term because of the neighborhood's origins, its structure and inhabitants, but yeah Favelas only exist in Brazil where the term originates from.

I think you mean malandro and not Marlando btw "Malandro" is a Portuguese term that doesn't have a direct translation in English, as it encompasses various meanings depending on the context. It can refer to someone who is streetwise, cunning, or sly, but it can also denote a certain charm or charisma. In some cases, it's used to describe a person who knows how to navigate through difficult situations or who lives a somewhat unconventional lifestyle. Depending on the context, you might translate it as "trickster," "rascal," "rogue," "scoundrel," or simply "street-smart." Anyways, lovely video. Thank you @@samesamevic

@@samesamevicdon't take it too much to the heart tho, it's totally a Portuguese thing, alcoholism is very rooted in the elders here, most old people were born before 1974 (when the dictatorship ended) and insist that there is nothing wrong with drinking and that it adds some "spice" to living. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I've never been in Cova da Moura but it is known here, you were lucky with having no encounters in some of the streets, I'd say the bad weather did you some good favors :p it is "very" safe to walk in all Lisbon/CdM/honestly all portuguese cities' main streets, but there are a lot of narrow streets like 1,5 person wide, that's kinda where you get the heat. don't take this as an idea, please, Portugal is a safe heaven if you don't step some lines.

If u call Cova a favela, then u would need to use this word for many places in Europe. I suggest that u change the video's title to "Visit to a nice and interesting neighbourhood in the outskirts of Lisbon". Favela is unreal and maybe an offense to the people living there. If you're interested in favelas, go to Naples, Paris or the French Guiana...it is Eu territory and has apparently plenty of them.

It might be one of the safest countries on paper and for the majority of the time it is safe but it can also be pretty rough.. and I guarantee, here are some Bairros you will not get in it might get very dangerous to even be there even more while filming. They also did say that when Kurt Caz when he was in Colombia or Brasil but I guarantee it will be very different here.

Nah Bro! Just in this Area, in the 90's you had Cova da Moura, 6 de Maio, Azinhaga dos Besouros, Fontaínhas, etc. There's Chelas and some others in Lisboa. Some in Porto. But even so Portugal is in 2024 at the 7th place in the ranking of most safest places in the World. Brasil is 9th in ranking of Countries with more crime rate in the World. Between 8th El Salvador and 10th Jamaica. Portugal is much more than Lisbon and Porto. And even in those big Cities, problematic Neighbourhoods are residual. I spent all my Youth in Alfornelos and going to these Neighbourhoods and was never robbed. Lived in Carcavelos near the Marianas Neighbourhood and again nothing happened to me. And also lived in Alta de Lisboa thst used to be the Musgueira and it's totally different nowadays. Poor People were given Social Housing and that made a difference in their integration. But then again thugs don't do their crimes in their own Neighbourhoods. That's common sense.

Por acaso não sei se estão legais, uma vez que o terreno é de particulares. “Da nossa parte, da nossa família, não é uma necessidade tirar de lá as pessoas. @@PedroSabido122 percebo. Just to inform there were many favelas in Lisbon, most been knocked down by the government so basically they were created by people from the colonies as they moved to Portugal and built a house to live, search for other favelas and you can see, there was one close there called Bairro 6 de Maio(Ghetto six) but been knocked down most of it already, also Marianas, Pedreira dos Hungaros
