The Hole was so good that when I read it in the original Japanese I wanted to translate it immediately! Unfortunately as I'm not a translator I (stupidly) dropped that dream. But I just knew it would get translated eventually (although it still took 4 years). In any case, it's a book that explores a lot of typical Japanese themes, particularly of familial roles and duty: duty to our parents, duty to our husbands, duty to our husband's family; family versus neighbors, large city versus countryside life; loss of tradition, etc. The scene where she is in the bathroom talking with a lot of her former coworkers about becoming a housewife should be a big clue as to the theme of the book. Hope that helps!

I love these videos, so many relatable moments (needing a wee and being too comfy to move). And I would recommend watching a video on how to do ladder stitches as that's what I'd recommend (as someone who's been a beginner at sewing for a few years now lol).

I am terrified of mice. Actually, I'm terrified of rats, mice are just little rats who are waiting to grow. I read Mr Loverman last week or the week before, Barrington was a masochistic, but that was good, because none of Everisto's characters are perfect or completely flawed either, it's just so human.

There is another book called Blood Orange by Drusilla Campbell. It's a domestic mystery/thriller contemporary. I owned it at one time but it involves a missing kid named Bailey and my oldest daughter's name is Bailee so I could never bring myself to read it.
