This is how amazing smelly is; In 1998, they had just made there website, and had a Q&A section. It might still be there. I was on way too many drugs and was going thru a lot, and I left a question about Smellys Sobriety. He called my house to speak with me. For years after that, I was on pass lists, I saw them in Buffalo and Toronto every time they came around. Had stage passes. Been on there tour bus, hung out with mike, guys from good riddance, and plenty of others. Smelly is an amazing human being

Me too. I've been saying the same thing for 20+ years. I was given "I Heard They Suck Live" by a friend, because, why???? He told me "This band is a terrible excuse for a punk band". Meanwhile, he thought Sugar Ray's first album was the best punk rock record he ever heard. I was introduced to NOFX, because my friend thought "punk rock" was Sugar Ray's first album... Something about Lemonade.

I very specifically remember the first time hearing Nofx, sitting by the side of my friends pool as she told me about them and sung shower days. She grabbed the tape, and green corn started playing... I was hooked immediately! Funnily enough I can’t remember the first time I heard the descendents, and they had a far bigger impact on me (and everyone else who has good taste)

Here is the thing about NOFX, they might be bad one night, they might suck, but they have the best songs. Mike is a brilliant writer and lyricist, and that’s all that matters. A band lives and dies by there songs.

Dookie was also the first or one the first albums that made me gravitate to punk. I was like 8/9 years old and my mom really liked the singles of that album. When I was like 12 i heard the full record and then I went to stuff like Blink 182 and eventually heard people saying "oh, thats not *real* punk, you have to listen this and that..." and by the time I was 14 I was hooked with the whole genre (from the classics, to the commercial, all of it). Even now, I find myself discovering music that has strong punk roots like IDLES and I love it. It's such an important genre in my life. I remember the first time I heard The Decline... I was so blown away. Til' this day I find that it's ironic that punk being known for feeling, basic chords and short songs, I still think that that song is one of the best Punk songs ever written haha and it's so long and technical.

If Smelly wasnt in NOFX, NOFX would never made it, I'm clad he got sober, but he never changed. Smelly you are my fav drummer. I remember hearing Punk in Dublic for the first time, I was at my local skate shop, it had a mini ramp at the back of the shop this is in Gold Coast Australia, called Phrunt Side I was 12 years old surfes paradise (its a strip club now) I went home picked up my bass and started playing punk rock it changed my life.

My mate gave me 2 C-90 cassettes in 1992 and said check this American punk shit out, one tape was NOFX white trash and SNFU stick in the eye and the other was Bad Religion suffer and Descendants milo goes to college, I've loved it ever since, seen NOFX live 11 times so far, my fav band of all time, and skate punk in general is a big part of my life.

i got to say that it's very funny, for me, in a way, after so many years of listening to mike's side of the story and his positive stance and attitude about the band not practicing, to hear that smelly is, in fact, complaining about the fact the band does not practice, and to realize he finds it disconcerting X D although i do understand and empathize with smelly, I just have to laugh about it... the fact that the band that prides itself on not caring about practicing has, in fact, one member who does care, and he's not quite happy with this status of the band, is for, some reason, hilarious to me, however insensitive that may sound, but again, i do understand and empathize with smelly
