A fantastic line up of the classics. Of course, to make the real deal Martini, simply substitute the vodka for gin and make in exactly the same way. The only one missing is the "perfect" martini, where you take the ingredients of the "wet" version, but make the vermouth to be half dry and half sweet.

What makes the difference between shaken and stirred? I know there is one, but I can't recall it.
@nudl3Zz10 жыл бұрын
the ice breaks when you shake it so you have small ice flakes in it and I think it's not clear. there is also a tste difference but I have no idea, I never drank a martini^^
@pellarella9310 жыл бұрын
i think it has to do with the dilution of vodka... when you stir the vodka in ice its only enough to chill it and dilute it ever so slightly. When shaken more ice can dilute the vodka as ice shards may break off during the shaking process and may go through when straining into your martini glass creating a more diluted martini. i think thats some what right? :)
@Jinx31310 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The ice flakes and the dilution by them makes sense and I think it is what I heard before. So I guess a shaken one is a bit more smooth? I've tried a martini once before (the classic one, stirred I think), but I didn't like it at all.
@pellarella9310 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure how i would describe it. i guess It wouldn't be as sharp as a stirred martini- due to less dilution. a vodka martini is a strong drink, its almost straight vodka. Everyones taste preference is different especially in the level of alcohol they want to taste in a drink.
@saber1epee010 жыл бұрын
These points above are all entirely correct, but with one big thing as well. Shaking gets a drink WAY colder than stirring does, often below Zero Celcius. The colder your drink is, the less you can smell it, so shaking promotes/enhances tastes but suppresses smells (aromatics). I think the best thing to do is to make a drink yourself and try it shaken and stirred side by side. If You're not a cocktail regular, I suggest a daiquiri (Rum and equal parts lime juice and sugar syrup): It is simple, always sweet and delicious, and is REALLY different whether you shake or stir.

Fun fact: The whole "dry" martini thing came about because most bars weren't chilling their open bottles of vermouth so most of it would be bad or turning bad resulting in a bad drink and drinkers wanting less or none of it in their drinks. I mean this problem still persists to this day.

Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube A good gin just adds so much more flavour. And also in such a simple drink good quality spirits are not lost. I for example would use a 15 year old rum for a cuba libre or an 18 year old scotch for an old fashioned. But in a martini you really gain from a quality London dry gin.
