THAT is the best line in this series, too bad they went back to it because the whole "Shaken..." thing was getting too camp. Also, the proper ingredients for a Vesper no longer exist- Kina Lillet is no longer made (and Lillet blanc is too sweet); Gordon's Gin is no longer available in the same proof as the original.

Exceptional video! This really highlighted key moments and performed a wonderful deep dive into James Bond's iconic choice of drink. It was great to see the consistency of Bond's drink preference across all the films - shaken, not stirred. The detailed breakdown of the martini recipe was a surprising but educational twist, certainly going to try making it myself. I can't wait for more content like this!

I tried it last night. It's difficult to develop a taste for, but it helps to be drinking a normal martini since while James Bond's order is iconic Vodka makes it worse and shaking it more so. It's essentially a way to get blasted in a fancy way

The ultimate Bond Martini is the Vesper first introduced in Ian Fleming's Casino Royale novel in the 1950's. The Vesper embodies everything super spy. 🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸

Agreed! I've made it at home, it's very good: You need to buy Lillet Blanc Vermouth somewhere (The original Kina Lillet isn't for sale anymore) but it's pretty close.
@audiophileman70477 ай бұрын
@@JamesBondLounge Kina Lillet was an aperitif that had quinine in it. It was actually somewhat bitter. I've heard that the closest thing you can get to Kina Lillet today is Cocchi Americano, an Italian aperitif. Haven't tried it myself but maybe someday. I use Beefeater Gin, because it's my favorite gin, and it has the same alcohol content as Gordon's did in the '50's. The vodka is unspecified except for measure; I prefer 10 times distilled vodka. To get closer to the Kina Lillet of the '50's, I use Lillet Blanc and plain tonic water. I add very little tonic water, but this can be adjusted up to taste. The bitter flavor from the quinine in the tonic water really adds another dimension to the drink. Cheers! 🍸

I remember a radio talk show many years ago, they discussed why it is shaken and not stirred. When it is shaken it homogenizes the mixture. If it is stirred the lighter liquor floats to the top and changes the taste of the drink.

I'm not a drinker, does it make any difference whether it's shaken or stirred?
@itsme-mj9ic3 ай бұрын
stirred martinis are clear and ice as cold. shaken adds more air to the drink and dilutes it a tiny bit more. you usually stir cocktails that have a main ingredient with smaller amounts of other ingredients, and shake cocktails that have more individual ingredients. standard rob roy has mostly grants scotch, some sweet vermouth and dashes of angostura bitters - you would stir this. but a margarita has tequila, triplsec, lime juice and sugar syrup - you would genuinely shake and fine strain this. also the consistency would be slightly thicker for a shaken martini

Shaking is dilluting the martini, the ice being shaked away, making it less stronger, stirring is less dillution. Shaken is the way to go for Bond, since he is on the job.

Supposedly, there is more air mixed in with the vodka when it is shaken, which also affects the taste.
