I swore id never get a set of hyrax, they just didnt appeal to me. I ended up buying a set of the g8 n love them! Theyre good at first, but the more u run them, n they scrub in, they get soooo much better. Now, ive not run the canyon style inserts, but i like the CI lil novas, soft front, med rear. After a bit of break in time, theyll get where u can get them to slide a bit, to adjust the rear tire position. Imo, keep runnin them til the leading edge starts scrubbin in, then compare them to this run. Youll see a big difference in performance. Keep up the great content Dr Iso!!!!

What I have found the longer you run that tire the better it gets.

That's the case with virtually every tire-- they all get to a sweet spot. The problem here for the Hyrax is that there is a list of tires that do better fresh out of the bag, and therefore there's no real "intersection of curves." The Hyrax are pretty situationally specific, which is fine. That's just gonna show up pretty clearly in a test sequence that isn't testing purely on-rock performance.

The predator compond is extra soft, wore them out in 2 seasons. Just got the G8s and they are wearing in very well.

I have two now. They are mechanically identical to the $60 dig boxes that I own... 6(?) of. Just nicer in that they come in solid gold or solid black. One is in Rattlecat (gold) and the other is in... I can't remember. LOL. But yeah. Recommended, for sure.

In Germany we use Reifenseife to mount a 1:1 tire. Works fine with 1:10.

I don't think that stuff is really gonna give bubble juice a run for it's money, as bubble juice is 99¢ a quart. And you can also blow bubbles with it. Bonus.

how would you gear down a ascent i have a fusion 1800kv in it. i don't know what to do with it. it is my only 10th scale crawler and i can't afford to buy or build something else, but i don't want to put alot of money into a poor platform. i did lots of yard work during an AZ summer. i saved all last summer to get a 10th scale crawler. rcdriver,exocaged, and roadside had me convinced by the time it was released that i bought it an hour after it was available😢

The least expensive method would be to replace the stock transfer case with a standard 3-gear transmission. That will more than double the gear reduction. The axles will still be a severely limiting factor, but at least it won't be a rocket on the 1800.

i have adjusted the links a little i moved the front upper link to the left on the axle link mount.i also flipped all of the link mounts on the axles except the front driver because of panhard mount. So all of the lower links point straight at the axle tube. I drilled 2 new holes in the chasis for the rear uppers the pivot balls are flush with the top of the rail and the stock upper hole. I twisted the front upper link a little longer to match the slightly stretched wheelbase. Do these changes something you would do to improve performance? What axles would you suggest I swap if I was to do that. I like capra axles, to me they seem to be the cream of the crop and peak performance

@@Bonitacreekrc2 Capra axles are much wider, and are good axles. I can't speak for Mr Canyon but I think he might recommend Meus that he has on several of his rigs. Those are clones of the Vanquish F10 portals. Ultimately you'll have to decide how much more you spend on the Redcat and how much you allocate / save for a different rig. A 3 gear is relatively cheap but axles on top will be increasing that mod budget.

Yes, it’s not a tire for mixed terrain, it’s a rock tire in my opinion, and as a g8 compound, they need some miles on them, and like wine, the older the better they will become 😊

The one spot that's over there in that corner by itself or you have to go up that steep double edge I have seen tires do remarkable over there I didn't realize I thought it was Baseline at first just like oh he's just unloading and turning over or I thought to myself maybe he just needs a refresh lol you know the canyon has come a long long way but then I remembered walk straight up that obstacle😊

The final spot that you go through right there at the end of the side Hill what do you feel like is the degree of angle there I have definitely heard that same thing that G8 needs some miles put on it needs scrubbed in

Is there a way that you would be able to test driveshafts? I see a few options out there for metal shafts but no one really doing any testing

I feel like I can safely recommend the cheap, cut to length driveshafts from Amazon-- must be up to 6 or 7 sets at this point. amzn.to/3PjfyOK. I do recommend the plain SS over the black coated, as for one the black coating is going to get all scarred up over time anyway, and second when you cut them to length, the melting coating smells terrible in such a way as lead me to think I shouldn't be inhaling it.

They're nice, but having to get a driveshaft within a specific length for each application is at least to me, kind of annoying-- anything skid-forward is SO annoying to put shafts on. Of the all-metal shafts on Amazon/AE, the Injora are some of the better that I've tried.

You should re-review the Krawlers, I think your big problem with them was the stock foam, which you don't seem to run anymore.

My 4.19x1.9 hyrax my corners are as round as you would have in a heavily used g8 KRAWLERS. I have almost no more siping left on each lug block. Plus my 4.19 has less leverage on the side wall than the 4-3/4’s. Similar experience I have on my 4.75 growlers there great supporting side hilling but im not impressed with them really. Now the 1.55 growlers I had totally different experience. The hyrax will change after age and rear steer a lot better. But bla bla there all great old. Good view thanks.

i have the redcat rtx-4c radio, the stock ascent radio

It will work, as that's a 4-channel radio, but setting it up and using it will likely infuriate you. The radio has neither momentary switches nor endpoint adjustment, and both of those things are pretty important for properly setting up dig.

The Hyrax is not getting anywhere near a Rupture. There's probably a dozen tires between a G8 Hyrax and a 1.9" Rupture.

This is the exact experience I’ve had with Hyrax. Do pretty well on rock but once they get in loose dirt, the only way they will ever fully clean out is the water hose. Those stepped lugs clog up and will never clean out on their own.

I see people running these tires on trail trucks because of the hype behind them and they have no idea that this is one of the worst tires for that in my experience. They become drag slicks once the lugs are loaded up and they don’t clean out

Someone keeps forgetting measuring some tires 🤪. Maybe a little bit of the bad side hill is because of the shocks? I have remembered now that Baseline is running those fake Dravtechs, have you checked if they have leaked or something? I kinda like this tire and dont at the same time, I got some second hand ones (idk which compound) with 2 stage inserts for 30 bucks, so cant complain about mine This tire slides on 12th place, between Trenchers (predator) and BF Goodrichs (G8) by 0.1 points. Top10 is 94.7, and there are already 3 G8 tires on that top10 (lowest score G8 tire is the Maxxis Trepador, with a surprising 92.6 score for being a Proline G8 tire)

I still think Hyrax tires are a decent - excellent tires depending on location. Not JConcepts green good, not VooDoo KLR red good, but good none the less.

I'm good with the score. Like I said, if someone is exclusively crawling dry rock, these would be pretty great. I just like something more "all around," and prefer JC green over G8 pretty much... well, always.

Given the hype around the Hyrax I expected a better performance. I've always resisted running Hyraxes because they're what everyone else runs. Also, they are Pro-Line and thus overpriced.
