You're right about tiny trucks being kid magnets. A favorite memory is of a little girl petting one of mine like it was a puppy. Flash the lights, wiggle the wheels a couple of times and their squeals of delight pitch up another 3 octaves. Never too early to get 'em into the hobby.

I bought my first crawler last year, a TRX4 79 Bronco. I think it was in ideal first crawler. It’s been super durable, and has no Achilles heel that needs to be replaced immediately, ie Reedy electronics. It looks fantastic, the tires are awesome, and it has enabled me to learn to crawl. The 2 speed and unlockable diffs also give it the ability to be a very fun scale basher. I don’t think the FMS is likely to survive running the local carpet buggy track at speed, or dropping into a skatepark bowl. My TRX has handled both, and then gotten back to being a very composed crawler with the flick of a couple switches. I love it, and am charmed by it.

As much as my son would like to have one like mine, he is getting this one because I believe it fits him better. He is 10 by the way. I see it as the perfect first 10th scale truck for the kid of a long time scale/trail/crawl guy; kind of a niche rig. Eventually his allowance will turn it into something else, but until then, he will be having lots of fun crashing and rolling around while the adults are crawling. Im glad its on sale and comes with a winch.

@CrawlerCanyon4 ай бұрын
Well that's the thing-- the High Trails are stuck in the middle-- not a competent crawler, not fast enough to do trailing/bashing, etc. So whatever you want to do, there's a better alternative for it, likely for less money. I still wholly maintain that the non-High Trail Sport is a better option for as it will crawl, and trail, and do all of the things, not being held back by tires that are far too big for the vehicle.

(18:20) ...This is "why" I bought/picked the Gmade (GS02F), cuz it does not "do this," [torque-twist] !! ...😆 It is a no brainer to "ONLY" pick Gmade's new-er version of their old (GS02), cuz it didn't have the anti-torque-twist/counter rotating driveshafts either, back then... and yuh "gotta" love Gmade's GS02(&) GS02F rotated/tilted differentials, front & rear, "and" with no offset, to me is wayyy more appealing than a off-center pumpkin, to the left or right, because who would want to "know" while driving their RC crawler, that yuh have to keep "in mind" not to catch the "diff" on a rock, regardless of which side of the front axle, and/or rear axle, the diff.(s) are on !!! 🙄... 🤔 ✌️
@CrawlerCanyon6 ай бұрын
It is not wise to compare the gearbox in the GS02F to what's inside every TRX-4. While the Gmade box has opposite rotation on the driveshafts, and underdrive inside the box, it is also fitted with (count 'em) 1.5x7.2 millimeter pins. You can put a 1/8th scale buggy motor in a TRX-4. I wouldn't try that in a GS02. Same goes for the portals. And the ring and pinion gears. The GS02(F) is a fine platform, but the TRX-4 has enjoyed this longevity for a reason. If we're talking about ATT/ATAC gearboxes, I prefer Carisma's offering, or any of the all-metal "reverse rotation" boxes on Amazon. The GS02F box is unnecessarily complex.
@ReneeCorsaro6 ай бұрын
@@CrawlerCanyonMissin' the point ...I would never want, nor put an 1/8th scale motor in my badazz GS02F !! 🤔 I am simply speaking about potential crawlability, and this is where everyone misses "the mark" !!! 🤭 Not durability, as much... cuz I would buy a TRX4 "specifically" for that purpose, not for technical (LCG) crawlin'. For a stock "out of box" crawler... the Gmade "is" the best bang for the buck, but is also the most capable, when modified, being that it is "so light-weight" (and) agile... better than any other stock RC. 😉

I have sat many a evening going back and forth between the Sport Trail, the Trail kit,l or other normal kits....for my daughter. I am so set on a kit for here since this would be a build we do together. She's 21 years old and not much of a basher. She understands what the 'purpose' of RC cars are for. Dirt oval cars she would only use on dirt. Monster trucks would never go on the race track. And 1/8 buggy/truggy she would never bash with. I have always hoped Traxxas would release a non-high trail '79 F-150 or the K10. I'm still holding out hope.

The Dumbo terrible. There's well past a dozen different radios in here, and the DDF-350 was worse than all of them by a wide margin. Add to that the idiotic angled wheel that is only comfortable in one position, and it's a nightmare of ergonomics. I don't have to like it, and there's enough variety out there that I don't need to put up with it, I'll just use a different radio. The TQ has a built-in excuse for being bad-- it's a 2-decade old OE radio that probably costs $3.50 to produce. But I've used $20 radios with better trigger and wheel feel than the DDF-350. The Cross branded Dumbos aren't bad at all-- so it's not all Dumbos.

I can all but guarantee that I own more Traxxas rigs than you do, as as much as I like them, I maintain the ability to be objective. The High Trail is aimed at enthusiasts, it's not made to crawl rocks, and it is in no way, shape, or form a progression of the original Sport. But I do love waking up to an accusation of bias.
