Great video. I have a clunk in my drivetrain, but it's a 2008 Puma and I think it's the gearbox output shaft. Another LR terrible design with a dry spline 😢

Is the current standard set up designed to be the weak link in the drive chain, and ultimately designed to fail under significant load to protect the diff etc from damage? Are you not just shifting the weak link in the chain to something more difficult and expensive to repair?

Agreed.

This does remind me, I have to check all mine.

can you get after market one peace axle and flanges i wonder if you could weld the originals up so they are one peace
@josephhomen4 ай бұрын
You wouldn’t be able to take the hub apart do replace brake rotors or bearings/seals or even re-grease the bearings

Yes the one piece drive flange and half shaft exists and many people retrofit these to do away with play at the drive flange.
@PeterMenzies-t4r4 ай бұрын
Some have welded the drive flange to the halfshaft and as a temporary solution it will work, however the application of heat does change the properties of the halfshaft and can introduce a failure at drive end. One piece REAR halfshaft-flange similar to originals are now available for compatible vehicles but not the Salisbury rear axle afaik. The diff end splines of halfshaft do not wear much as they are oil lubricated.

@@josephhomenWhy? The halfshaft pulls out of the diff anyway, the defender 90 comes with one piece haflshaft and flange from the factory, not sure why they didn't do the same on the 110.
