Good movie! Seeing that Coin operated TV reminded Me of those coin operated mini TVs they used to have in Greyhound Stations! They used to have Coin operated Toilets too!

As a teenager we stayed in a motel that had a coin operated tv. It was twenty cents for an hour's worth of viewing. Never seen a tv like that before then or since.

and the coins were precious metals (silver and gold) and had lots of value. today we need paper dollar machines. because a can of coke is $3.00

I never seen a coin operated TV but rented a room with a gas meter that was 5 X 20 cent coin per hour for the gas heater in 1987

How come they were digging with square tipped shovels?, we're the spade shape too dangerous for them since they were prisoners?. You could take a person's head off with a square shovel.

Another decent B movie from the 1950s, quite tense and well-acted. Richard Devon (1926-2010) makes for a good villain.

Richard Devon, one of the best of the bad men, and best of Hollywood husbands, married to the same gal for 50 years, a rarity in that industry. ☺ Some guys are happy just to do an honest day's work and come home to family and wouldn't read anything more into the profession like the "with benefits" thing.

This movie has a sense of realism not seen in films nowadays. The way the calamity unfolds making each decision a risky proposition. The events that transpire are just what one would expect in the situation at hand. The plot is not some outlandish scheme. The very same type of thing happens near my home which is close to forest work camps. They do have some fortunate occurrences but it's believable. More so than films made nowadays.
