We have a drive in theater in my small community. The projector was recently upgraded to digital (a necessity in order to play newer films) in large part from donations collected from the public at shops and businesses throughout the county. It's open all year, but we're far enough north that during summer months showings don't start until 10 PM when it finally gets dark enough...

I was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona. In the 70s, we went to these drive in theaters: The Acres, which was double sided. Two different movies played. Big Sky Nuveiw The Indian The Silver Dollar, they had the best hot and spicy pizza. There was also orange groves near by and the smell of the orange blossoms in the spring were intoxicating. The Phoenix The Northern Glendale Drive in Valley Drive in I know were more, but these are the ones we went to.

There was probably a fair proportion of a couple of generations in America who were conceived at drive-in movies .

When my wife and I were dating in the early 1970's we went to them a lot. You should also know that many children were conceived at drive-ins.

We have a drive in in my city in the mountains. It's beautiful! It's $8 per adult and they always do a double feature. So it's MUCH cheaper than the regular indoor theater as well. Each parking spot is half gravel and half grass so you can park and sit in the car or bring a blanket and sit outside on the grass. There are individual speakers on a post at each parking spot which you can use in the car or outside but if you stay in the car you can tune your radio to a certain station and listen through your car speakers. There's a concession stand with basic movie snacks and drinks, and restrooms. But my husband and I typically bring our own snacks or even grab take out and have our dinner there!

They just put up a new drive in theater here in our city of Chico CA! So happy they brought it back....loads of fun! However, we don't listen via the car stereo, there is a speaker next to the parking spot that you place on your side window. Back in the late 70's a bunch of us kids went to the drive-in in a big open bed truck. We all piled into the back, backed into the spot and watched Cheech and Chong. It was so fun.

A new one? That's so awesome. The speaker sounds like one of those in the video, that's pretty cool! Love the idea of an open bed truck, under the moonlight with a big pizza. :)

The younger people would use the drive-in as a safe make out spot. They would park in the back, furthest away from the screen. The people who came to watch the movie would park close to the screen, given the couples a bit of privacy. I had many a great dates at the drive-in.

I live within a few blocks of a drive-in theatre in Texas. It’s only open on weekends most of the year, and is closed from December to February because it is too cold to attract many customers. Who wants to freeze in their cars? One thing to notice for most of them is the flat roofs on their concession buildings, so as not to block the screen for those parking behind it. 😊

In my college small town there were 2 theatre's in the county. 1 regular and 1 drive in. I prefered the drive in. Early 1980s

There was no problem seeing the full, humongous screen. In fact you could see the screens glowing from highways when driving near drive-ins. I watched the Beatles' Yellow Submarine at a drive-in in Southern California in 1968 with my newborn son sleeping in a portable crib in the back seat. 😊

Imagine watching the movie BULLITT (and its great car chase scene) at a drive-in theater like I did at the now-demolished one in Marysville WA, now a parking lot near the Tulalip Casino. You could pretend to be actually driving during the chase. 😮

Saw Bullitt as a kid in a drive-in in Hawaii when my father was in the Navy there. I was little and the back seat was my bed that evening.

I live in between 3 drive-ins here in SoCal and I haven’t been in a while but it was 9$ a person for a double feature at the time. Pick up a pizza and hit the movies on a Friday night

The screen was huge and each row had not sure how to explain it but when you parked your car the front was higher than the rear so you were sitting in your car as if you were very reclined looking up at the screen. Cars parked in the row in front of you were never an issue. There were short metal poles in each row with two speakers each attached to a cord. You selected the closest one and lowered your window and a hook allowed you to hang it from your window usually the drivers. And you raised the window slightly and adjusted the volume to your liking. When the last movie ended you simply returned the speaker to a rest on the pole and left.

Cartoons at first for the children, then two movies with a break between so you could visit the toilet/ restroom, and they had concessions as well with hotdogs, hamburgers and various other foods as well as ice cream. Many parents would bath and dress their young children in their jammies because you would be returning home quite late so as a child you went straight to bed. Growing up in the 1950's and 1960's my family went to our local drive-in a lot.

I remember my first drive-in movie. It was inside a car with the radio tuned to the station for the film. However: I had watched it from an open boot. It was an experience I haven't forgotten.

In NE Ohio, there are still a handful are left. I have two in close proximity to me. They are a nice throwback & a reasonable priced place to watch a double feature movie. They charge $25 per car & they will charge you an extra $10 if you bring in your own food & drinks. Covid days really gave them a huge boost & kinda brought them back from almost extinction.

I remember going to a drive-in a few times as a kid. I enjoyed it. I've only been once as an adult and it was still fun. That was awhile ago, and I'm not sure if there's still any open in the area.

There is a video you really need to watch about college football it's the full experience... from the tailgating to the start, the marching bands, the Halftime show. It shows it all... the reason for all the fans, passion, excitement. It's called "British People's First American SEC Football Game!" think you'll really love it.

We have two drive in theaters in the Tulsa Oklahoma area, both on historic Route 66. The Admiral Twin and the Teepee Drive in the suburb of Sapulpa, OK. Great fun.

There is the Chief Drive in in Chickasha that is still open. Went and saw double feature of Wizard of Oz and Twister there.

Sadly they have all closed down around my area (Seattle) by the late 1990's. Not before I had a chance to experience it multiple times as a new driver and highschool boy of the early 90's. Interesting, at least to me, the couple remaining drive-ins had converted to "swap meet" grounds (car boot sales grounds) for about 10 years before those also faded in fashion. Good video guys, thank you. Edit: oh yeah, just remembered... I worked at a small restaurant that was 1950's themed, with juke boxes with real records and burgers and milkshakes. You know, classic American diner style, in my late teens. The owner of the place would project old movies onto the building next door every Saturday night through the summertime, in order to drum up some extra business. Neighborhood families would gather and bring chairs and fill the parking lot to enjoy the free show. Something to think about if you have an area to host such an event. It was a lot of fun. Some of the best things in life are free.

Around here there's one....where you go to get a movie you saw 40 years ago, a bag of stale popcorn and a hummer or a handy ! Hahahahahaaaaaaaaa! I'm just kidding....the movies not that old!
