Thank you for the series of motorway videos. I had my first refresher lesson on a motorway on Friday. The weather was heavy rain, and I mostly drove by listening to instructions. I found myself slowing down or not driving at the right speed. I'm going to watch your series of videos and read the highway code again to be better prepared for the next lesson.

If outside lanes are doing around 60mph and lane one is empty what should a car that's approaching that row of traffic in lane one do?

You're allowed to undertake.

Could I just stay a safe distance behind the lorry in the left lane for the whole trip because I am still not confident? Would I be doing anything wrong?

Nothing wrong with that at all. Keep left unless overtaking 😀 But, following a large vehicle really restricts your view of the road ahead and can actually feel very uncomfortable. If you are going to stay behind a lorry make sure you stay far enough back that that the lorry driver can see you (can you see their mirrors?), that you can see signs in good time and see far enough up the road to anticipate when traffic is going to slow (otherwise you will end up fixated on the brake lights of the lorry ahead of you) and you leave enough room at junctions for a vehicle coming off a slip road to join between the lorry and you.

@@DrivingLessonsnet Thank you for this that is very useful, 😊😊 especially the part about using the mirrors on the lorry for guideance as to whether you are too close or not. I ended up accidentally on the motorway after trying to follow A roads and luckily I got off and navigated it fine I just kept left and stayed in the left however I had so many questions afterwards.
