Thanks for sharing. Funny I thought you were a farmer just by looking at the surrounding area in your vids. You are informative and well spoken. Keep'em coming.........

Thanks 👍 No farming here. I don't know how to work that hard!

This was a fantastic video for someone somewhat intimidated by some maintenance. This gives me confidence to dig into these necessary maintenance items that improve the longevity of the parts and making them easier to use daily. Thanks! Bruce - Larkspur, Colorado PS I have a 2009 JD 4320, so I appreciate your JD 4066 videos. But, I learn something from all of your content. Btw, what is your education and profession, if that's not too nosy.? Either way keep up the good work!

Thanks! Comments like this are the reason I do these type videos... back in 2012 before I got into garden tractors etc I could barely change the engine oil! Education... waayyy too many years in school! Due to my some legal terms of my employment I don't openly discuss my day job (it is about a 180 degree change from any content on this channel).

The sickening sound that drive shaft made several years ago still sticks in my head.

Ended up doing this today on the x495 and 62c deck. It some how collapsed and the stop screw bypassed the stop point....The little stop rod broke but I ended cleaning the whole thing as you showed...damn thing gets slippery with wd40 on...chased those balls over over the table...Going to finish up tomorrow ran out of grease too....ah, the perils of matience....stay well and thanks..

Great video on cleaning drive shafts, could you do one on changing out universals on drive shafts? I would also like to know if it is possible to replace the universals on the drive shaft on the X700 series, Deere only sells the whole shaft at about $350.00. I have a 2016 John Deere X758 with 1400 hrs.

The deere 4xx series shafts make my kubota bx look like a toy! The 60 inch kubota deck is cheepish too compared to my 445 60 inch deck.

Do you have the part number of the set screw that hold the pto shaft together? Lost mine. Thanks in advance. Great video.

Some parts diagrams do not list the set screw and there are multiple part numbers. The faster route might be to take the shaft to your local hardware store with a good hardware section and find one that fits.

Do I have to unbolt the engine or can I take the driveshaft out without having to unbolt the engine?

I’ve always been a fan of removing the engine to remove the driveshaft. You can just unbolt the engine and move it forward and get the driveshaft out from under the machine.

Do you happen to have a good used P218 driveshaft for sale for a 316? Mines got a little wobble at the pump side

I should, I will have to look today. Drop me an email mmrbeef at gmail.com . I wasn’t sure what machine this was on. I would take a good look at your splines on the pump shaft. The 15U pumps seem to have some issues with spline wear. In this case you can replace the input shaft or the whole pump.

How do I fix the spline wobble?

Any indication of which side might be worn? Normally the shaft side “should” be of softer metal and wear first. Inspect the internal splining of the shaft and look at the splines on the mid-PTO. If the shaft is worn you can either replace the yoke or the shaft. If the splines on the PTO are worn it would require replacement of the PTO shaft.
