I'm not joking when I say I could easily watch segments like this for HOURS. This is like How It's Made, but exclusively about cars. It tickles my brain nicely. :)

I've only sat in a Bently once but just sitting in it (not even moving) and the interior smells so rich. and white leather that came with it felt so so good.

At 8:14 when he moves the vent around, it looks like there are wires and stuff showing. It took me a few seconds to realise that the piece was polished so well, it was reflecting parts of the work bench and machinery.

JF, it is common courtesy to not fold your arms while interviewing people mate. Nevertheless, a wonderful video as always. Shows a good insight as to how these wonderful motors are made. Cheers.

Why is it rude to fold your arms.

gurvir44 because its defensive body language or something like that, read about it a while ago
@michobebemckawi10 жыл бұрын
gurvir44 Simply because american people have forgotten the basics of social communication and politness.. That's why they would burp in public, raise feet on tables, talk with the mouth full of food.. that's why they're "American" modern Cow Boys.. A Society with very little education and sens of respect and traditions.. (And I come from that society, so don't think I'm bashing strangers)

I often think about how crazy expensive luxury cars are and then I watch videos like these where everything is done by hand and the attention to detail is meticulous and it makes me think how incredible it is that they are able to sell them for the price they are.

This is sexy as hell. The detail that does into a Bentley. Just wow. I don't think that I will ever have the privilege, but the amount of craftsmanship that they personally put into the cars is not seen anymore. Thus the cost.

@vyrnmn10 жыл бұрын
1:07 looks like solid wood to me... working with a chisel.

and 3:05 the guy says "solid walnut substrate".
@vyrnmn10 жыл бұрын
6:19 more solid wood. you need to learn to look and listen more closely.
@unicorn733710 жыл бұрын
James Franklin I think Shines7 may have meant using solid wood as the finished product instead of veneering it for aesthetics. That would be extremely expensive and difficult to do though.
@WootTootZoot10 жыл бұрын
Ummm, when was that ? Veneers have been used for centuries in woodworking. Bentley and RR have always used veneers on their cabin accents.

THAT is quality justifying the price. Only English and Italians are able to do that kind of higher craftsmanship.

@Dgannt10 жыл бұрын
16MrMattie Ya, but it's more of a technical craftsmanship.
@Fugedibobo10 жыл бұрын
And the Germans obviously..
@Dgannt10 жыл бұрын
Fugedibobo No, not Germans. They are good at organizing and also technical craftsmanship. But this kind of hand build stuff is different. As I said, only English and Italians. They have shown it for centuries and are best at it. And I'm not a bias English or Italian. Just recognizing and appreciating top quality when I see it.
@Trialshoppl10 жыл бұрын
bezor Ta since Bentley is essentially German now, I wonder how much of what you call English craftsmanship is in fact a process that came from abroad. Personally I would not say that Bentleys woodwork requires a higher level of craftsmanship simply because it is a repetitive task. To me, high level craft comes from making unique and custom items. Then again this is just my opinion, could be completely wrong.

I understand the hand made wood interiors, since it's such a visual skill. The hand stitched leather and engines assembled by hand are things I don't quite get. I've seen too many imperfections in these cars that are explained by "it's hand made so some imperfection is to be expected" Uneven stitching, panels coming unglued, gaps.. On a car worth hundreds of thousands of dollars I'd have a hard time accepting it. With an engine assembly I'd trust a machine far more than I'd trust a human. The machine will do things the exact same way every time. The plaque with the engine builders name on it is nice, but not if that person had a bad night and let a mistake slip by.
@gmansplit7 жыл бұрын
The people making these cars are not minimum wage plebeians, but highly skilled technicians. They also use machines to help them in the manufacturing process. www.reddit.com/r/cars/comments/4n833n/why_are_handbuilt_engines_better/
@lejink7 жыл бұрын
gmansplit "The people making these cars are not minimum wage plebeians" I guess the people doing the interiors are minimum wage plebeians to you then, since each car is different. I think a robot can be more precise than a human when it comes to repetitive tasks like engine assembly. I guess that engine builder's name on a plaque has some marketing appeal so they hang onto it.

does not sound good that the wood is coming from south America I really wonder if they are responsible for deforestation or if they use sustainable forests...
@oscarpark152310 жыл бұрын
It's a shame to think that in 20 years these cars will be worth 5000 American. You'll look around at the cracked leather that was hand selected, defect free and the faded wood dash that was shipped from all over the world, kept in a humidor before being veneered..
