Great video as always. I just bought a 2019 Mazda3 in Mica Blue with Red interior - stunning car. The drive is whisper quiet and the engine has more than enough punch to keep it fun. The red interior puts most luxury cars to shame. Mazda proved that an automaker can design and build a very well appointed automobile for a reasonable price.

Did you go for FWD or AWD? I'm currently debating...unfortunately the color combo I want (Sonic Silver with red leather) only comes in FWD...
@poseidon1292665 жыл бұрын
@@tmh44 I've watched a lot of mazda3 reviews and many feel that the awd version is noticably more sluggish than the FWD. Reviewers also got noticibly lower mpg than the EPA rating would suggest. Unless you regularly are unable to launch from stop because of front wheel slippage, I would skip AWD.
@mattcoomes60465 жыл бұрын
@@tmh44 IMHO: If you're any kind of decent driver and are NOT living in the upper mid-west, FWD is just fine. AWD tends to be most useful for one of two things: Getting up from a stop during rather slick conditions (and doing so in a fairly controlled manner) and saving people from themselves when they overestimate their capabilities and enter a curve a bit too fast.

Mazda take an individualist view on car making, and I love them for that. They don't subscribe to turbochargers for the purpose of reducing fuel consumption, because they maintain that they don't make much difference in the real world, only on tests. That means that their claimed fuel consumption figures translate to the real world, unlike many small capacity turbo engines, which often.consume much more fuel than in tests. Mazda also maintain that touchscreen infotainment systems mean that you have to take your eyes off the road for longer, making them unsafe, something I agree with too.

I have had a 2010 Mazda 3 since new. It's one above the base - I bought it because it was fun to drive and relatively inexpensive - there is a value to the closed storage area of sedans if you park in a city and in a public parking area or on the street. It's a noisy car, though. I hope the 2019 is comparatively quieter. I also don't understand why Mazda treats the video screen as an afterthought. Most other mfrs have it well integrated into the dash - Mazda's is too small and sticks up like an add-on. And the trunk space and overall room is spare compared to a Honda Civic, which I've been considering. I do love the fact that basic sedans are lower priced because everyone seems to want SUVs. This will be good until there are hardly any mfrs left making sedans.
@242HP5 жыл бұрын
You apparently have not been following the latest car designs. The trend toward putting in entertainment screens that stick up above the dash instead of being integrated into it is not just in Mazda cars, but also in Toyota and Honda among others.

I have a 2018 mazda3 that I really like. I just took it in for a scheduled service and checked out the new 2019 in person. It definitely looks better in person. More modern and sleek. The interior is noticeably more luxurious. Very clean and modern, everything padded and soft. Arm rest and cup holders are much better placed (one of my only gripes about my 2018). And, the rear quarter blind spot isn’t that bad. With a backup camera it won’t be an issue, and wouldn’t be an issue changing lanes. I’m still partial to the curves of the previous generation, but this new one is an improvement. Once they get the new engine in it, it would be a significant step ahead.

I have to agree with your overall assessment. Seeing the hatch really anywhere but in person just doesnt' do it justice. I hit the dealer, and for all of 10 minutes was unimpressed. Is moving from an independent rear suspension to a torsion beam one an upmarket move? Asking for a friend...
@DrivenCarReviews5 жыл бұрын
Generally you want an independent suspension because it offers better isolation and control. If one wheel hits a bump it doesn't affect the other side because they are, well, independent of each other. They tend to be more expensive and complex plus take up more room. Torsion beam suspensions are less expensive to manufacture and take up less space but they generally don't isolate like independent suspensions. Plus there's usually more road noise and vibration. I thought the Mazda's TB was good though. Test drive to see if you (or your friend) feel the same.
@evang39435 жыл бұрын
If you click around, you'll find out that Mazda put a lot of effort into their torsion beam design--even got a patent. They said it helped them reduce NVH, plus allowed a bit more interior space [versus extra room taken up for suspension bits].

Independent rear suspension is always better...but Mazda didn't just put a cheap torsion beam in the car..they put a really good one in it to the point where for a compact car you would not notice a difference...but that's my opinion coming from a 2015 Mazda 3...your friend should test drive it

Third place among Mazdas for me. First place has to go to the MX-5. The Mazda3 and the Mazda6 would tie for second except for the fact that the Mazda3 apparently lacks AC vents for the second row. Since that's my big dog's second home he'd consider it a deal breaker not to have them.

@@DrivenCarReviews The reanking is only among Mazdas and a fantasy, at that. WIth a wife, a daughter, and the dog, I like to take at least two of them with me on a regular basis. So that leaves me with my GTI.

Mazda missed the mark. Don't get me wrong. AWD in a Mazda 3 is a major 'go'. Glad to finally see this drivetrain. But if they truly wanted to move the car upmarket, they needed to offer a more powerful engine. Adults in America do not want to drive around Civic Type Rs But we DO want a car that can occasionally make us feel like a hooligan.

$28k just to get a manual transmission is insulting high. Mazda ensuring the manual take rate is low so they can kill it off

I agree 💯 %. I was waiting for a 2019 Mazda 3 sedan with manual transmission! I cannot believe that there is no manual transmission option for the sedan!

@@swanblake Sad thing is that I would move up to the Mazda6 even but there is no option at all for the manual transmission anymore. It used to be available on the base trim only which was sad enough. I just don't understand the concept. I miss the days of old where we could special order engine size, transmission and options like a sunroof or leather seats... etc.... ... I will probably go to a different brand vehicle now and purchase a naturally aspirated v6, rwd or fwd. ... I would have stayed with Mazda and a 4 cylinder if I had the manual transmission option.
@haydn-db8z5 жыл бұрын
I can't decide which makes me more sad: Limiting the manual to the high end or the low end in a given model. Actually, it's more sad that people who really want a manual buy an automatic so that their spouse can drive it, even when their spouse has her/his own car and would only drive it a small percentage of the time. Lowest common denominator at work. :(
