They make bungee cords with carabiner clips. If you're feeling adventurous you could buy a roll of shock cord / paracord and the carabiners and/or hooks and make your own bungee cords. Either way a carabiner would minimize tearing the tarp and strap. Just make sure it will fit through the grommets or other securement points on your tarp(s). Great video - thanks for sharing. Pointing out your mistakes and what should've been done instead is super helpful.

In some places you use 5/16" Nylon Braided ropes, not the three cord twisted ropes and learn some trucker knots and no bungees and protect that tarp. Keep both ends of those S hooks bungees hooked to the inside of the rub rail, harder to punch holes in your brand new tarps. Good info!

you learn something everyday. even though I've pulled reefer in my time. cool to learn about what other guy's go through on a daily in the same industry. also like how you own up to your mistakes. you don't act like a super trucker because your on the tube.

I love your videos man, i use to work in a nursery ....shipping trees, now that's some fun times tarping, try nylon twine as tie downs it wont ruin your tarps and is cheap, as for the hole go get a pool liner repair patch and apply on both sides make sure patch is 2 inches bigger than hole this will prevent fraying. Next video ....Folding said tarps on a windy day....have fun....lol ;-} PS. Hope there's no wind and keep up the good work i realy like your video's

I learned to take a wrap around the hook with a strip of duct tape when I have to place the hook so that it might do damage to product or tarp. It is a slight hassle to undo but worth the hassle to save the product or tarp. Thanks for your video. Am returning to flatbedding after ten years so am reviewing...lol...am too fat and need the exercise.

I have specific bungees I use for the front side sections of the rear tarp to avoid the s hook damage. I bend the s hook into a tighter S with pliers to avoid the sharp point as they originally come. I keep those burgers together in one bundle for quick grab n go but my tarping is never fast! An idea for the airflow outlets in the back would be a peice or two of 4 inch pvc pipe about 2 feet long or so like an exhaust pipe! I worry about back draft with water spray. This way there should be no chance of it coming back into the pipe. Great explaination on the tarp needing to flow through.

@@rvargas9521 lol I saw something like that yesterday, makes sense I was curious since reading something about noise pollution. it's the one thing not much focus is put on when talking about the transportation industry. knew this one girl who would tell me she always knew when dad was home because the TV was loud, lol. I found myself doing the same and only gets worse as we get older.

Food for thought. Use a short length of rope with a loop at one end and tie the corners tight. No hooks, no holes. Other than that... More, more, give me more!

Hello sir great video , I have a few questions, what are the dimensions of the tarps ? What weight of vinyl did you use ? And how much do they weigh? My tarps I have would work better on a flatbed then my stepdeck. We haul such odd shaped pieces I wonder if any tarp is correct . I see why 10” drops would work . Safe travels
@leescanlon2145 жыл бұрын
Where you have damaged that one tarp I noted that the strap is completely flat. It was my experience that you always need to have some twist in the strap to keep it from vibrating in the wind, that likely contributed to the damage, to both strap and tarp.

Why didn’t you get a conastoga and save aloooot of time
@sappy4happy4485 жыл бұрын
I asked him the same thing right after he got his step deck. The Conestoga or curtain sided flatbeds are nice but have limitations. You can't haul anything wider than what the covering will 'slide' past. You can't haul anything higher than the covering. If you're hauling something long that takes up the full length of the trailer or longer it can be hard to load the product since the curtain only collapses so much. A lot of places that load using an overhead crane won't load a curtain flatbed due to the risk of damaging the curtain. Thus his choice for the open step deck.
@taylorcarr52525 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s a big limit, but the time savings vs tarping makes up for the difference especially if your doing lids under 1,000 miles.. I did the math. 1 hour average per tarp/untarp and 3 loads a week is 6 hours.. your hour is worth 100$ 600$ a week in time savings at 3 weeks each month 600x36 is 21,600 just in time savings or $10,800 at 50$ per hour
