Great video! So I had my first flatbed load yesterday and delivered this am in Canton Ohio. I parked at the pilot at the 101 on 77 last night. I scaled and had a question so I asked the driver parked next to me also pulling a flatbed. Not only did he answer my question but past on years of knowledge. What a great guy and low and behold a Mercer O/O.

1. Coveralls. 2. A variety of gloves (including latex or nitrate) 3. Invalid bath wipes (found in the Depends section). When I pulled flat, I ate all I wanted. When I went back to the box, I gained 20# in three months!

Awesome video. I ran flatbed years ago and am currently coming back to flatbed in a couple weeks. On issue number 1 I used to carry coveralls. I’d change into them when I loaded or unloaded. That’s the only thing I remember. I miss the flatbed hours of make the same money and drive less. And yes sleeping better was great. As a fry box driver my mind is tired but my body is not so I don’t sleep well at all. Flatbed drivers are healthier for the most part

You can always switch back to reefers and stay clean as you sit at the dock for 4 to 6 hrs waiting to load Then unload at your 2am appt, most of those places have real pleasant attitudes too, they're always happy to see you : )

I hauled cattle over the road for my entire first 3.5 years of my career. It's all I knew. Cattle is commonly considered the toughest job in trucking. 5000 miles between Monday and Friday was a regular thing. Now I'm 2 months into flatbed. I thought it would be a breeze coming from doing long haul cattle. Well.... I was wrong. Lol. Its alot of work and others always something else to learn. I'm truly enjoying the challenge and the constant learning. Awesome videos! Keep it up! I could make a whole list of things I've learned that have helped me with this whole flatbed adventure. Thanks!

coveralls, they're useful not only when dealing with the f''king tarps and chains, but also in winter months, and in summer months coveralls make it easy to wear shorts. Tip- buy the kinda bag you use for laundry for camping, and you keep your coveralls and gloves and sweaty work hat in your cargo compartment, or your box with your tarps. gloves - i dont get how your nails looked so dirty from flatbedding, i work in the oil field hauling crude right now which is way dirtier than flatbed ever was and my nails are fine, (i feel so fruity for writting that lol) and there is more physical labor but there is so much less BS, vans and refers have have appointments that are crazy, you might have a 10am one day and a 10pm the next, you have to wait in lines etc etc, i've waited in lines as a flatbetter, like getting coils or lumber, but usually its not so long as vans or refers or tanks and I never heard of a flatbedder getting rejected because the trailer wasnt washed out,

LMAO Always dirty! Baby wet wipes I have found really help while am driving (and they freshen your face when getting a little tired), but I've been making it a habit to wash my hands and forearms at the shipper or receiver before finally leaving. I have my comfortable clean driving clothes and dirty work clothes, and keep a laundry bag for once resetting at home. I keep a pair of gloves for fueling and yeah multiple pairs for work (including cold weather). Don't take long that clean hands in dirty gloves become dirty hands. Ninja skills have been handy for climbing up onto the trailer and loads.

In the days of old, son's and sometime daughter's use to follow in their father's foot steps. Learning the vast various difference's in the trucking industry. Meaning, Van's, Refer's, Heavy, Flat's; All of which though envolved in trucking. And need driver's. The in's and out's of each are totally different. Driving school's teach how to drive, the various experince of type of trucking, comes from experience. The average new driver is coming from disgrunted hourly worker's. And adapting to a mind set simular to that of a bussiness owner, is rarely ever successfull done.

1. Coveralls 2. Fingernail brush or latex gloves under leather. I haven’t tried that one yet. Sounds uncomfortable though. May work though. 7. Refers and freight trains? No problem. 8. Gloves. Costco 3 pack of leather $20. When wet, not so good. You know. Thanks brother. Quick side note. Re positioning the 660’s gauges is a good one to do. Not sure your visibility with that steering wheel , but the fuel, def, oil, oil temp, and oil pressure would be better located in the far right positions. It’s on my list

Why not get dark colored shirts to avoid the dirty look, Trucher Josh in Canada hauls everything from lumber & building supplies to agricultural equipment & most of the time keeps pretty clean, given Canada's winters, he wears Yellow or Orange safety vests when out of the truck, it takes the wear & tear good.. I guess guess coming from fuel as my 1st job in trucking to now flatbed staying clean is easy! #1 Wash your hands as much as you can. Every time you stop get into the habit. #2 Use 2 sets of gloves 🧤 1 for strapping down and the other for simple tasks #3 Change gloves or wash them few weeks that’s how your nails get dirty because the inside of your gloves are dirty #4 When strapping down wear a safety vest zipped #5 Carry a shine brush for your boots #6 Avoid rubbing up against objects, takings your time is the key I do these things and stay clean all day long and I deliver various cement products 2-4 times a day (full loads)

I’m in CDL school right now and am considering flat bedding. This is going to be a new career for me as I’m in my 40’s. I’m considering flat bedding primarily for the physicality so that I’m getting some exercise. My only concern is that I have back issues. Do you think that flat-bedding might be a bad idea for someone like me? Do you have any friends or colleagues that have back problems and are flatbed truckers and if so, how do the deal with it. Thanks.

If you're like me, it seems only one of a set gets a hole or tear, eventually you'll end up with a pair if you save the old ones : )@@DrivenTrucking

Does it take you 5 hours to get out of the shipper, making sure you have your tarps perfectly straight and an equal number of bungees evenly dispersed on each side? :) j/k

This was an interesting video. I do have a question what is CDO? I know what OCD is because I have that on somethings. I was just wondering about that

I love your video...lol...I'm going flatbed in a week or two. Just got my cdl and scared I won't get enough miles since I'm paid by the mile.
@DrivenTrucking
@DrivenTrucking 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! At first, you probably will not but the good thing is flatbed is not about a ton of miles it’s more about turning the loads and the only way to do that is to kids quick at securement and tarping without relinquishing quality.

@@DrivenTrucking I get paid 60 cents per mile no matter the load.
