@LHdeSantos on the contrary, having been in both countries for about equal amounts of time, I'd say that Japanese drivers as a whole are much better than Midwestern US drivers.

Another reason why Americans are so horrible at driving versus the Finnish, or anyone for that matter: 6 hours on a skid pad, 3 years to a full license. Thanks again Top Gear...

This kind of driver's ed would make anyone a great driver! :) I have to say that the Japanese drive MUCH worse than Americans. Their only concept of safety is to drive slowly. They drive as though any object in their path will conveniently evaporate as they approach, and make no effort to avoid other vehicles, bikes, pedestrians, etc. It's the land of the long, slow crash.
