It used to be that the train chasers in their cars would try and keep up with the loco, driving off-road if need be. A friend of mine was doing that when he hit a drainage ditch at 70 mph.

Could you please tell me the name of the Victorian Siren? I've heard it's called 'The American' Siren'. I l like its deep throaty roar. In my opinion it much better than the NSW one that sounds 'PipSqeak', very English sound to my ear. I love the R Class and when I was younger "H' Class Locomotive 'Heavy Harry'. Was one or both types built in Glasgow? thanks. And keep them coming.

I always wanted to know how a Steam loco was able to control the diesel electrics running/pushing behind it. Is there some sort of modernised computer system that tells the diesel locos when to throttle up/down or does one of the diesels also have a driver in the cab to make these inputs?

The special control system for the diesel locomotives behind is...... a driver. 😀😀 there is a control stand available on some steam locomotives around the world and one was fitted to an R class here when in West Coast railway days but this train just had a driver on the diesel locomotives. 👍😊

@@driver667 yes, it seemed quicker with that view and I timed it between 2 km posts- exactly 65kmh! Then the 65 curve came. But apart from that seemed smooth enough for faster.
