Drivers Republic - BMW 123D v Nissan 350Z

If you take those runflats off the 123d, the car responds much better in the corners.Those runflats are heavy on the sidewall so don't give as much roll as a normal tyre.Hence the constant squealing etc.The ride is much better without them.Oh and get it mapped and it will wipe the floor with the 350z.

I've had both, the 350z is much more fun to drive and is quicker plus the sound is amazing. The 123d is the better car to daily and once I got it mapped it came alive (I'd say still slower then the hr 350z just because of our long the gear ratios are) the BMW intieror is better minus the seats. Both cars look great in certain angles and also a bit ugly in others. If you want a fun toy buy the 350z but if you need to be a bit more sensible while having fun the BMW is for you, both great cars

I have a 123d The run flats are shocking no grip in the wet. I replaced with Avon zz5 transformed the car just need a remap now!

it feels a full 100hp down on the Nissan (it is) feels as if its struggling for power vs the Nissan (its 100hp down)

milltek exhaust + professional chip and you get 265 bhp out of BM ;) My fella squeezed 212 bhp out of my 120d, without any mechanical changes. Love my BM ;D

On the other hand the Nissan consumes 11,8L/100km(combined) while the BMW consumes 5,4L/100km(combined). Of course the Nissan is a bit quicker and probably more fun to drive but whit that said i think those numbers from BMW is really impressive. What do you think?

Gustav Norling yeah its a good daily driver with good torque... but these cars shouldnt be compared. they should've compared a BMW 130 or 135i against the Z...

I have a 123d (convertible! extra heavy for those of you that don't know) and at a recent track day (sandown Australia, a long straight and a twisty back with nasty hard turns at each end) after 2 laps had a 270Z for breakfast, followed by a pair of brand spanking new mustangs, going quick is easy pulling it up and getting round the corner is a different game, 2 cars got past me both Porsche's, bottom line a petrol screams a diesel drones, you want thrills or results? I'm 65yrs old bty and shit I miss my rorary Maz lmao ps whoever said ditch the runflats +1 on that

123d really shows its class with a like for like petrol. walks a Type R.

The torque is easier to feel if you have lower revs like 2000 - 2500. I guess diesels will never be good for racing, since they miss the torque in high revs, and miss the horses in low revs. Going up a hill, I would shift way earlier with that 213d, max. 3000. You may not be faster, but it would feel faster

these 123d engines OPENS at high revs because bigger turbo starting to spool and it goes like a train on high rpms. you would understand this only if you could have a chance to drive biturbo diesel engine like me
