The stacker track idea was absolutely brilliant - no one is gonna mock that guy for that - he should revive hat and try it again - plus it’s a space saver parent should have ate that up. The Bismarck never made it back from Operation Rheinübung as it was sunk 400 miles off the coast of France by a combination of the Royal navy's battleships (Rodney and King George V) and cruisers (Norfolk and Dorsetshire) and scuttling charges set by her own crew to hasten the ship's sinking.

It was shot unmanouverable by Swordfish biplanes from the navy, as one torpedo hit the rudder system, pretty much the only part of the ship which, of course, couldn't be armoured. Then it could only sail in a circle and was damaged so badly by various warships, that it was sunk by the crew.

@@ajace5883 You misunderstand how ships work. Only the vitals are heavily protected. An armor belt 14" thick on side, extending a few feet over the waterline, then some internal armored decks, the conning tower, and the turrets. Plus the torpedo bulge. The rest of the ship is clad in fairy thin armor plating. The belly, the upper decks, the superstructure. The steering system was actually fairly well armored with 6-8" of armor protecting it. The problem is that armor isn't much help against the massive concussion delivered by a torpedo.

The HMS Hood is 100% my absolute favorite ship of all time. The Mighty Hood beautiful ship to begin with and the stories of it circumnavigating the globe to the hunt for the Bismark were some of my favorite to research for my degree. I just finished the Airfix kit that I got for my birthday also :P

I'd love the model of Hood for my father. My grandfather (his father, incidentally!) served on several Second World War warships (Ark Royal, Renown, Nelson, Rodney) many of which were in Force H (Hood's battle group). He may have therefore even been on board Hood!
