Back in the 70s I had a 75 Dodge Colt, which the fuel pump went out and ended up leaking into the crankcase which ended up blowing the head gasket and after replacing that I put in a cover plate and installed an electric pump. To resolve the issue of too much pressure I put an inline fuel pressure regulator on it. That seemed to solve the problem. It worked for the 6-months I kept it before I sold it.

Tell Isaac the German aftermarket has the parts he needs. Brake drums, fuel pumps, differential seals/gaskets/bearings, probably synchro rings and more. The Kadett A sold really well in Germany and is a popular classic.

I am Australian and I drive a Ford Fairmont AU1 Station Wagon from 1999. It is so easy to live with as long as you don't mind the fuel economy. As it is on dual fuel I use LPG on long trips which is rare now that I have retired. We always called them station wagons (or station sedans) as they got used to go to the railway station and then to the farm (station).

Dear Richard, I know you will probably never read this but I am just watching the last episode of the Grand Tour and I just had the urge to text you three about my thoughts . I am watching the part where you guys found the cars from your first Botswana special from 2007 and it hit me. This is a 22 year old legacy that ends. It is an era I began watching when i was 8 years old. Back in the days when I watched Top Gear with german subtitles because I did not know english yet. You guys are my childhood heroes. Since the first episode back in 2002 your show was a big part of my life. Thanks to you I became the petrol head I am today. I went through quite some dark times (hell just now I am going through them yet again) and the trio has always got me smiling even during the hardest times. I am sitting in front of the TV with a scotch in my hand and tears in my eyes because I know my life will not be the same without the ape, the hamster and captain slow. So here's to you! Cheers! 🥲

thank you for doing this, richard and crew. with all that we seem to have lost in the gear/petrol head world in all sorts of media, i feel we and the younger generations are blessed to have a veteran voice of the medium speaking sense and honesty to the world. as cars become mindless consumables like laptops and microwaves (as a colleague of his once and likely still says) i'm beyond grateful to have a voice of reason around still echoing through the web to ground us all in what brought us here to begin with. most of us likely arrived here by some youthful yearning of freedom and possibility. im glad to be reminded that it all doesnt end with the mainstay of one's career or monetary value. Hammond and the crew bring us all back to where it began ... with 4 wheels (maybe if) and a dream. thank you

6:04 at only 1 psi needed on the fuel pressure just run a return line to the tank and put a T on the fuel line right before the carb. It allows most of the fuel pressure to return to the tank and you only get the residual pressure of the fuel freely moving through the line. I did it on my wife's Subaru GL when I swapped it to a Mikuni motorcycle carb and it works great for really low pressure systems.

It is my favorite car I ever owned. Now that I went looking at baying another one I found out they now cost 20.000 to 40.000 £$€, same as a ok Porsche Cayman, so that is what I plan to buy now. Insane prices on all these older rear wheel drive cars now here in Norway...

a lot of those were still mechanical pumps driven off the timing or water pump drive on the front of the motor. considering the budget of those back in the day, it's probably one of those. a low pressure dead-head electric pump setup would probably be the easiest and most reliable way to go. 4-5psi is about all you'd need for the tiny carb that thing is running.

Probably ditching the fuel pressure regulator and running the carburetor off a simple T in the fuel pipe loop will get the pressure sorted out. There's enough friction in the return line to make some pressure that can feed the carburetor. I haven't had to try it myself yet, but I've heard others that have, so it should work.

I'm so old I remember being picked up from school a few times in a metallic red Kadett A estate, in 76 or 77. A guy we knew had one. I quite liked it, and I still do. There's something about them, even though I think I would get a B or most likely a C instead. Anyways: I'm absolutely looking forward to more on your somewhat surprising Kadett A obsession. Love it

Richard, you should properly modernize this Opel estate, it would be an awesome build. Putting on disc brakes, and fuel injection, but keeping the looks :)

These videos amuse me. A 2000m trip is a big adventure. I live in Australia where some people travel that far on a shopping trip. Well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration but you get the picture. I do live in a town where many do drive over 100k to work each day, ( 200 - 300 round trip). Not me, but friends regularly go 1000k with only fuel stops. There are farms where the homestead is 20k from the gate. I come from NZ where, much like England, towns/villages are typically 10 - 20k apart. Distance, like time, is in the mind.

I just can't watch the final grand tour. I have been watching top gear from the first episode in 2002 and the old ones before that from 1997. Thank you Jeremy, James and Richard!
