This is by far my favourite car content, I really enjoy seeing cars being restored. Personally I would replace the cam chains and plastic guides whilst they're off, well worth the peace of mind in my opinion for little outlay.

Why not just do a total rebuild the engine as it’s a restoration? Rings, shells and crank seals. Do the heads aswell valves, rockers, seals etc. I wouldn’t be using those chains again either.

Yep, I'm a former mechanic from decades ago and I would replace the timing chains and runners. I wouldn't just stop with pulling the heads off either, would keep going.

Car is still being rebuilt, the engine has been fully stripped rebuilt, shell has been painted, running gear has been stripped, cleaned, powder coated and rebuilt, Mad Ford is waiting for filming to resume before he can do much more

Hey Mike. What I really like about this restoration is it realism. You aren’t throwing bags of money at it. You are doing the basics and that’s it. With the engine, you are stopping once you found the problem, rather tearing down for a full build. Job well done.

yeah, that 2.5L v6 is a beauty. It was obviously well cared for. I have a 4.2L v6 in a full sized truck with 270k miles still runs like new.. who knew? I was just being cheap when I bought it, it turns out to be a high mileage hero!

It is my honest opinion that the late 90s and early 2000s was the pinnacle for internal combustion engines in terms of maximum bang for buck combined with incredible longevity. Newer engines seem to be too strained, wringing every last bit of power from them shortens their lifespan, and complex emission control systems only exacerbate the issue. I can't deny that a modern 1.6 turbo can give the same power and torque of this big lazy 2.5 V6, but I bet the 1.6 will be far more worn out after 150,000 miles.

There is nothing more wonderful in nature than a real Brummie frolicking in his natural habitat. The photographer who captured these rare moments so beautifully deserves a National Geographic award. Shame Sir David was too busy with other projects to narrate it.

I would pay to watch this live. I know traditionally people go to watch music and plays etc... But for me this is my passion. Love how the mad ford engineer does all the delicate parts himself. Genuine care for what he's doing.

There is nothing better than seeing a regular "Car of the People" that's been used as it was intended to for the last 20 or so years and now watching it get a full body off restoration returning it to the condition it was in the day it left the factory.

I owned one of these in the states, where it was called the Contour, specifically the SVT model. To this day, one of the finest motors I've ever driven.

Shame they didn’t rebuild the engine, just some honing and new pistons & piston rings. Wouldn’t have cost that much extra

@@laan1956 does seem strange they didn't just do it properly and check the bearings as well. In a somewhat sporty car and with 150k on the clock it would have made sense while they had the engine out. be a shame to spin a bearing or something after all this work

I used to have an ST24, so I'm pleased to see this ST200 get restored. I have very fond memories of mine. It gripped like s**t to a blanket.

This brings back memories of my uni years and my ST24 and ST200 transplant. I remember wrenching all night to get the new engine in, to immediately take a 250mile trip back home for the summer. Well, not before stopping at Halfords and buying a fire extinguisher just in case!! Tbf, I've still got my Halfords toolkit 12 years later.

WOW Makes me want to restore my MK1 V6 Mondeo been sat off the road for 6 years...... The Mondeo is getting very rare now and prices are going to start going through the roof.

Love these - I had an ST24 in Silver. I have had all the German brands since but used to get more interest from admirers at Petrol stations with the Mondeo - looked like a Touring Car.

1996 Contour GLS was my first car. I saw the front end of that Mondeo and immediately went to Part 1 before coming back here.

One of my first cars was a MkI Mondeo. Ever since the ST200 was released I wanted one, never did get one though. I’d love to be able to restore one back to its former glory.

Ford imperial blue is awesome. I had a fiesta Zetec S. Once compounded, polished and waxed you could fall into it the paintwork. It’s such a nice deep colour.

It's kind of a shame he doesn't have another Mondeo. Would love him to have the second one sent to Mad Ford too but have it refreshed and rebuilt to look like the BTCC legendary Mondeo.

I myself am not a mechanically minded person at all, nor am I really a car buff either. But i thoroughly enjoyed this. Credit to the mechanic for being a great communicator. It is a bit of a dream of mine to have this level of work done to my 02' series 3 venom red AU Falcon haha. Bought it a few months ago now & have had multiple mechanics rave to me about the condition the car is in (considering its age and miles travelled) and now I'd love the car to have the chance to go through something like this.
