I used to operate a D8 Caterpillar bulldozer for my grandfather when I was 16 to 18 years old clearing land behind loggers for a local paper mill. I came across a lot of dead trees in all the land I cleared. We call dead trees widow makers. I also got into a lot of honey bees, hornets,and Yellowjackets. Honey bees almost killed my grandfather one time when he was clearing land by himself. He jumped off the bulldozer while it was still running and crawled to the road for help. The bulldozer ran into a tree and ran to the motor blew up.
@vikithomasson77723 жыл бұрын
Those bees r scary stuff! I’ve always heard the dead limbs hanging n a tree referred to as widow makers, especially after our big ice storm 12+ yrs ago. It took out all the tree tops and we still have a lot widow makers hanging and falling.

We had a shipping container while my mother had her house built .The only problem we had was mold on the wood furniture . Some of it cleaned up some did not . Now you can order charcoal bags from Amazon to help with control of moisture and mildew inside the container .It will smell because it is closed up.
@vivianwilliams22163 жыл бұрын
You are right about the mold, storage companies that have units without climate control sold moisture control small pellet packages, once they fill of 💧 water ,you replace them, 😊👍💕💕💕

Suggestion: On any Go-Pro/Camera mounted on vehicles where they are not in your field of view, add a tether to it. Something as simple as a shoe lace tied to the stem of the mount with a crummy aluminum carabeaner at the other end.

You need large crusher run stone first to fill in the ruts and form a base. Good luck cause you have some challenging land to working.
@williamsanders28083 жыл бұрын
Relative of mine lives in North East Texas, and has land like that. He put down large crusher run, then crusher fines to cover the large stuff, then a layer of 2-3 inch stuff, ran a smooth drum vibratory roller over it several times, until the 2-3 inch stuff was embedded in the crusher fines. Wasn't a bad road. Made it better after a couple years by putting down a 4 inch layer of recycled asphalt. Was like driving on a paved street.
@rebeccaplumlee96013 жыл бұрын
I think some small Rio-rap for base & maybe use some dry concrete over sections to help hold rock in place

I've seen road crews putting down old tires somehow they attach them together then pour gravel on top of them.
@chrism20423 жыл бұрын
Years ago I had a gravel drive 9/10 mile long. Without crowning the drive and cutting ditches, you may have continuous water issues. Even in the flat areas where drainage could have been a problem, I built the driveway up, crowned it and cut run offs where needed to drain water away from the drive. Low spots in a gravel drive is a never ending pain in the ***.
@marklong89923 жыл бұрын
Talk to flooring companies in the area and see if they will give you used house/office lots of carpet when they put the new carpet in. It can be great as a roadbase and saves you having to buy the matting. It should last for quite a few years even when buried in gravel. The companies are normally happy to give it away as they then don't have dump fees to pay.

He built on higher ground He can't even get a drive way Love the guy buy my goodness
@phoenixrising32193 жыл бұрын
@@kencarr2998 I think we all have to remember as well, he is working with "Virginia ground" it hasn't been driven on much to compact it. Now that it is a total mud fest and he is able to see where the water sets and runs he will have a better chance at knowing where he needs to divert it. Having that stone is nice. It will, however, get worked into the ground and be gone. It will offer a semi base and drainage. But more will have to be added. We did about three load on an already established driveway thats a terror to get out of. We finally got dirt specifically for drive ways. It compacts when driven on and stays hard. Hopefully he can get some of that because I tell you, its worth every copper penny!

Hey Shaun here in Ireland where it’s always wet they use a roll of a plastic grid that is put down before the stones to stop it sinking also they use a mix of rock and dust that packs down tight

@clydegibson11463 жыл бұрын
Great work! Just a suggestion...you need bigger stone for the base. Crushed stone will not hold up with how wet your property is. If it’s available you should consider it for the bed course before any additional roads you install. Make sure the pad for the storage container has at least a 8-12” rise from the road to prevent it sinking. Also, ask a friend that has a roller to compact the roads you have already built. Skid steer is good for spreading but doesn’t do much for compaction. You will see the low spots immediately.
@lizregan19493 жыл бұрын
You are going to think I am crazy, but you need to watch Martha Stewart on HGTV she puts in the most beautiful gravel walkways and driveways I have ever seen. She puts down this stuff that breaks down and makes it like cement and then pours gravel on top of that. Ok I know nothing just might look it up because my gravel has weeds growing in it.

GoPro -,yeah they have a habit of going when on a magnetic mount. Glad you found it and it was still OK. That road bed is going to be pretty solid from the rock trucks driving on it. You’ll probably need to add more as it settles into the ground, but hey that’s one of the prices of opening up raw land. Take care Dutch.
