Driving a Bus: A Joyful Job with Great Pay and Benefits

I've been driving a school bus in the small town where I live since 2004. It really is the best job I've ever had in so many ways. I wish our school district had a video like this one. Very well done, Greenville ISD. Go Lions!

Our school district contracts out transportation. The company that provides it offers 0 benefits. The pay for a van driver is around $12.80 an hour. They should at the very least offer retirement with matching, but it's nothing. I wish I had a better option, but I applied because I have an elderly dog and cannot be gone all day. It really is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to working for the school district. For a while I worked as kitchen staff at the local elementary, and I had some paid holidays, a union, and a pension. Yet, they say bus driving is important because you are carrying precious cargo...which you are...but they are not treating you that way. It should be considered just as valuable as being a kitchen staff member.
