Thanks for this review. My dad had a 1990 AX GT from new before part exchanging it for a 1997 Saxo VTS which he kept until 2009. I've got some great memories of these hot hatches and it must have influenced me as I now drive a Peugeot 208 GTi.

I personally own ax AX Sport which has the 1294cc dual double carbs with 95-100ish hp (sub 1300cc because competition regulations) a bit more composed in corners than the GT and also tiny bit faster and lighter Such an amazing little chassis

Awesome. I liked this car a lot. One of my favourite drives this year.

RIP K920 LSU I loved that car and still do. Best little car ever so much fun, could be conical but also faster then you would believe 0-60. Handled like a dream and super reliable. Absolute legend.

My dad had a AX Diesel back in the days as his daily for driving to work (~60km/day) and it had a rediculous low thirst for Diesel at 3.5-4.5l per 100km with its 54hp out of the 1.4l NA Diesel. :D It was light, durable, reliable, sheap in terms of money needed to maintainance, driveing + taxes. Was kinda 'quick' (not fast at max ~150km/h, doesn't need the 'speed' ^^) because of the torque of the Diesel and kinda spaceious + comfy (typical 'france seats' like hamocks :p) too in the front for two adults, plus 1 child in the rear and lugguage in the trunk. Brilliant successor of the famous 2CV (Ente 'duck' loveingly called in GER :) ) and surpriseingly 'hard' to find these days, at least here in GER.^^

Fantastic! I was very suprised about the car - well, only knowing the GT version now. But I was impressed how comfy it was.

Especially with the hot hatches among the Superminis, you ask yourself, why these are gone. It's such a charming and cool car. And it's already sold.

@@petrolpunx, yes, about 10 years ago there were plenty available and dirt cheap, I've been stupid enough to pass on a really good example. :(

Thanks for the video - happy memories! I had a mkI with the yoghurt pot interior, it was fantastic fun - 690kg and only 85bhp, but you could drive the doors off it. I traded it for a mkII - better interior but it wasn't the same - heavier and less sharp as a result. I only wish I still had one.

Lovely car. Honest mistake, I'm sure, but didn't you mean the Peugeot 106? As far as I know the 205 does not have much in common with the AX.
@petrolpunx8 ай бұрын
They've actually used the same 1.4 engine on both, the 205 and the AX. But you are totally right, much of the AX DNA was later found in the 106.
@cedric11384 ай бұрын
He meant the 205 XS, basically the same engine.

If you love the GT you just need to try the GTI (I don't know how they improve a perfect recipe). It makes you think about how overrated 205, R5 gt turbo, or golf`s GTI are.
@petrolpunx Жыл бұрын
Very interesting comment. I actually wondered, how different the GTi might be. And it must be good, when the GT is already such a charme. What struck me most was, how comfortable it is! It's the hot hatch underdog!
@euhm11 ай бұрын
The gti is actually less good than the gt, it has less power and weighs a bit more. It's the sport that is more powerfull. The sport has 95bhp the GT has 85bhp an the GTi has 75. In my opinion the GT is the one to have. The sport is to sporty for everyday use, and the GT is just more fun and sounds better with the carb than the GTi. That's also why I own an 88 GT and love it!
@JoseRomero-ig8nf11 ай бұрын
Actually, you made a bit of a mistake there. AX GTI was the MOST powerful version of AX made by Citroën (taking out the super production models that were used for French racing leagues) The confusion may be this one, AX GTI got a 1,4 engine with a MULTI point injection, this engine produced 100bhp not 75bhp, the SINGLE point injection is the 1.4 engine that produced that 75bhp. And yeah, sport is too sporty (for daily use) so, the best combo will be having a 100bhp with a comfortable interior and still less weight than a Formula 1 car. @@euhm

@@JoseRomero-ig8nf Ok, I didn't know about the 100bhp version. My mistake, nice to know! But where they only series 2, or also in the first series allready? Because I like the interior of the series 1 much better and focused my interests on them mostly.

I owned one in 1994. It was rubbish. It was at best a “warm” hatch. And the build quality was terrible. It did look cool though and the interior was very 80’s.
