I was very pleased with the quality and content of the video - and with the results of the volunteers' hard work. I did travel once on the Epping-Ongar line. Around 1979-1980, two work colleagues and I took a whole day off to travel on the line, meeting at Oxford Circus. The booking clerk made out a set of green paper travel passes - no normal cardboard tickets (someone else in the queue thought I was renewing a season ticket. It was quite clear that London Underground was pretending that the line was not part of the Tube network: it wanted to close it. Thank goodness that the line was taken over. Perhaps I will fit it in next time I am in London. Toronto is a bit too far for a weekend in Ongar! All the best to Squirrel and the railway.

Good to see the line in use. I was on the Central Line Project Team in the 90s when this section was closed due to lack of use. I spent two years in Derby on the 92TS tube train design team: these trains are still running on the Central Line. I then came down to London to upgrade the London underground train radio systems.

Well, this was just absolutely fascinating! I loved how Chris the instructor simply trusted you to operate the controls as per his advice, giving you the confidence and not limiting your input. The icing on the cake is the ability to move my iPad around to be involved in the scene and in the cab.Very clever...thanks so much.

I was lucky enough to have a footplate ride from Gloucester to Paddington on Class 47 SEVERN many years ago thanks to my father Wilf Redfern and a colleague. Originally only to go part way but no relief driver at Reading. Incredible experience sat on the right hand side dressed in a BR orange vest doing 100mph with one traction motor out.

Great to see you plugging the Epping-Ongar Railway. Don't know if they still do, but they used to provide a link from the end of the Underground line to North Weald Station, then use the vintage London and Regional buses to get people fo the North Weald Airshow and the Tigermeet there every year through the 80's and 90's. The odd years they couldn't provide rail services to North Weald, really impacted the enjoyment of the trip to and from the Airshows. Sorry, I haven't been in touch much recently Paul, but will remain a sub for as long as I can. Great job, best wishes, Whiskey 28 / MRW.

Wow, never seen this tech on KZbin. Great stuff. Just like Train Sim but real. The Cass 47 is one of my fave locos. Lost faith when you asked what a class 20 was not even noticing the Class 45 behind it. Good to see some 70s blue grey rolling stock as most today is steam era. Still great stuff and glad you enjoyed it. Chris was full of knowledge, have to get up there for a drive, I will start saving now.

Wow haven't seen so many RT's in one sitting since my bus spotting days down Catford garage O.o Do love the 47, only diesels I ever drove were the 73 and pretend "drives" with my uncle in his 33 as a kid, the 73 was on the Tonbridge-Redhill line I was hitching a lift of on a night mail train and the driver says to me "you want a go?" and I am like "ooooooh yeess" and it was over so quickly as we neared into the outskirts of Redhill. I found it was like powering a heavy boat, a little tweak here, a little brake there and the thing lumbered on its own merry way :) Cool to see the old line, I only ever went on it in LT times.

I love this line , especially busy at North Weald movement wise on event days like their spring/autumn Diesel galas-well worth a visit and easy access from London. For the diesel guys they usually have present 2x class 03, 20, 31, 33, 37, 45, 47 ,dmus inc thumper and static shunter at Ongar station approach plus usually at least 1 guest loco. I think they also still have a 25 but it has been off site for ages.

What a fascinating video, great to watch in the Rift for the 3D goodness! The first production Class 20? Wow. I remember sitting in th car at the crossing many times as a kid in the 70s on my way to school, waiting for 20s to shunt coal wagons about at Linby pit. I can still hear that fantastic chopping sound in my head now. I'd love to see one being driven again. Thanks Squirrel!

Honestly squirrel when i started watching you a couple of years back now when i first saw the euro truck sim videos i thought man this is cool, and made me build my first pc rig just for ets2, And didnt think you would ever do something like this, but after watching that this is next level stuff, yes i dont have a vr headset my self but my nephew does so ill have to try it on his, But even just moving the mouse around the cockpit if you like its so realistic and immersive, It felt like i was in the cab with you as a passenger, And thats the first time ive ever seen inside of a train cab, and watching you do the controls, theres more to it than just pushing a button, But honestly squirrel what an amazing video, and that you have enabled it with VR is even cooler, Looking forward to rest of the vr videos, just wish i had a vr headset myself, even though ive said before am not a fan of it but after trying my nephews one, its made think again just wow

That was an awesome experience thank you for sharing. There’s something so satisfying about doing it in real life that the Sims can never capture. When I was doing my flight lessons in the helicopter had so many hours in flight simulators but that first feeling of leaving the ground there was something magical to it I’m sure it was the same with the train. I would love to see one of these in a truck.

As a trainspotting kid of 15i n 1977 i had the pleasure to briefly drive one of these class 47s at Landore diesel depot in Swansea. The asked me to start it up but being a kid i thought one press of the engine start button would be sufficient thinking along the lines of a car starting.I had to hold down the button for a good few moments. Then as we trundled along the rails the driver said brake but i thought hitting the brake lever would stop this monster immediatly...Oops! The shouts of brake brake brake from the panic stricken driver as we hit the points which were in the wrong position saw us jump and derail. Not quite sure how he explained that one but i didnt hang around to find out...Ahh the good old days of british rail...
