Another positive has to be how stunning and simple that car still looks in the sun Justin. I would love to be able to afford another one to actually use as intended because it's a crying shame they've reached a price point in the UK where they are now sadly parked up and rarely driven.

The turning circle is enormous., underground parking spots was a nightmare of 5+ point turns. That 5 pot is also a boat anchor out front, but the glorious sound makes up for that....

Mk2 Focus RS issue is the engine is a bit heavy for the front axle. Mk1 FRS or Mk3 Megane RS get the balance right.

I think you'd enjoy a GR Yaris. Fast in an old school way, comfy seats (set too high for me though) and permanent switchable AWD. I had the non circuit pack version. It was a little stiff for me but not too bad. Still pricey though, starting at around £30k.

Great video. I own a totally standard RS MK1 Focus, and absolutely love it. I think if you put the suspension back to standard , and even the engine , you would enjoy it more. Yes you will have to work harder to make the standard 212bhp move you at pace, but it becomes so satisfying, it just feels right. I sold my Focus RS MK2 ( non standard ) exactly because of the issues you mentioned, suspension too hard, too much turbo lag then too much boost, hated it... the standard RS MK1 is a joy to drive... oh , and on a side note we have a Dacia Stepway as a daily too ! Awesome everyday cars lol.

Yay...another RS Dacia family 😁. I actually wanted an original car but it was so hard to find a good one here. This one used to belong to a Ford dealer and was absolutely in stunning condition...so I had to buy it!

You seem to have the exact same taste in cars as me. I'd be hesitant to daily drive a Mk1 RS here in the Netherlands, but in a sunny country, I wouldn't be worried about rust issues.

I wonder if you could retrofit the Ford OEM reverse sensor system (was the Bosch Parkpilot system IIRC) - would make a very nice and useful "OEM-Plus" modification. I remember doing exactly this to my MK2 Mondeo 2.5l V6 estate car when I lived in Germany in the late 90s. Of course, actually working for Bosch at the time made it easier to get the parts kit!

I assume it would mean having to make holes in the bumper though for the sensors? Not sure I'd want to do that 😅

Great video as always, from what you have shared with us, the vehicles is tuned, interesting to see if the turbo has been replaced with a bigger unit or if it's the stock turbo. In any case, this could be a case in which detuning the vehicle slightly may make it more enjoyable, maybe even getting a smaller turbo that will spool up sooner. Sure you will have less power, but the main issue here is that the power you currently have, is really not being put down effectively. Does the MK1 have a limited slip diff? I can't recall, if not, might be worth the investment too. At the end of the day, the possible mods will only make sense if you are planning on keeping it for a while Side question, what tires are you running?

It has a bigger turbo and a limited slip diff at the front! You may be right though. I think they didn't launch it with more power as it's too much for the car. It's gots Hankook tyres on it. I will be replacing them after the next track day, see if some new rubber helps 😁

Definitely go the OEM suspension and fit the best road tyre money can buy.

Any idea exactly which model of turbo it is? It seems very peaky for a hybrid unit, and is showing no sign of power drop-off just before the rev limiter cuts in! I'm sure the torque curve should be flatter than it is, backing it off would drop peak power from 310 to 280ish, but should give you a more linear delivery and maybe a bigger "area under the curve" as they say. It might save on underwear laundry bills.

Lol! I haven't checked what turbo it is to be honest. I think the internals were changed but not 100% sure. Need to spend some time working out all the mods on the car! Yes, power is at peak all the way to the red line and the torque should be a little flatter. It's a beast to control 😅

maybe look into remapping the car and trying to smooth out the torque curve, im mijas based and down your way quite often, i will keep my eye out for the rs :)

I'm not sure I could daily drive a Focus RS that is this stiff, but I think it's a great car for the garage and for a weekend spirited drive. Seeing as you're in Europe, are you able to purchase one of the last (new) Fiesta STs?

@Fezza mainly as a weekend car when the weather's good. I'd hate to use it as a daily, it's a good occasion car. Be too afraid of other people damaging it aswell if using it every day. I think my turbo lag is much worse than yours and I also have a hybrid turbo but it's running 365bhp and 400ftlb so when it comes on boost its like a clutch kick 🤣

Is it just among us technicians that we hate electronics? Some years ago I came up with the business idea to create a car brand with the USP "no beeping whatsoever" but still looking for sponsors 😂. My nightmare was a rental car in Basque country that beeps whenever I hit a white stripe 😂.
