If it weren't for Tom and his generous sharing of knowledge in a kind manner with newbies to the 2 stroke Saab like me, I would not now own my 1964 96. Thanks Tom!

Memories... I took my driver licence here in Sweden in a 1964 SAAB 95 two stroke.. The year was 1973. The 95 was an estate with 7 seats.

Tom is a Great Guy! Got to talk to him a little bit, and bought some of that Saab Bee......er, pop from him. Can't wait to get up to the museum eventually! Love that 2 stroke car. One of these days I will own one. Great video, another great memory retained.

I had a SAAB Monte Carlo 3 cylinder triple carb with oil injection until the oil injection unit failed and the engine was ruined. I had people competing to get the car after putting a for-sale ad in the newsletter. Wish I had kept it.

do you have to mix the oil and gas manually for those two strokes? or are there two separate tanks ?
@AutoAutopsy Жыл бұрын
I’m honestly not certain. Unfortunately I’m not an expert on these older cars

My college roommate had a late 50's 93. No need to pre-mix. Pump 10 gallons of gas and add a quart of oil (in the gas tank). They relied on the sloshing of the gas and oil in the tank to mix the two well enough. Crude but it worked. Got some strange looks and/or questions from the station pump jockeys :0)
@dongarnier5890 Жыл бұрын
This car has a separate oil tank in the engine compartment. It also has an "injected" block, which means FWIK, that if you were to premix. by adding oil to the gas tank before filling up with the correct fuel amount(ie not use the tank in the engine compartment), oil would not get to the proper spots to lube the engine very well. The "mixer" blocks have fuel filler caps with a tag on the inside that tell the person filling up to not forget to add the 2 stroke oil!

@@RADThird1In Sweden you could buy bottles of SAAB 2 stroke oil, good to have when I visited my Mum in UK but the Smokey strokey was not popular with people in city centers !

wait i am confused. u can change gear without clutch was that stock or something he modified?
@AutoAutopsy Жыл бұрын
Yep it was like that from the factory. Kinda quirky, lol
@Blashkyrk Жыл бұрын
It's called a freewheel and it was stock. When engaged it's like riding a bike. When you stopp paddling the bike freewheels, same here. There is no engine breaking as the car is freewheeling (engine and gearbox is no longer connected) and will coast like forever. This also makes it possible to change gears without clutch when the car is freewheeling.
@thomascarlin28443 ай бұрын
@@Blashkyrk The freewheeling is used to protect the two stroke engine as engine rpm can be high on the over run with little fuel be burned containing the oil, the freewheel was carried over to the V4 engined cars
