I do this job myself, and the hardest parts of this job is trying to find somewhere to drop your trailer, and when you do find somewhere to leave it, sometimes you have some pillock parked Infront of it. Then there's getting to the skip and you find cars and vans parked around it blocking it. Sometime people just move their vehicles, other times nobody knows who's car or van it is so you either have to try and drag skip out without hitting the vehicle or just leave it. Sometimes in bad weather you can get your truck stuck on the landfill site and have to wait ages for a bulldozer to pull you out! It's not a bad job really but can be a pain in the arse in the rain. Sometimes I've been soaked to the skin only 30 minutes into my shift! 12/14 hours later, you're still soaking wet!! Can be very miserable, especially if your day is going to shit with some of the things I've just mentioned.

Aye we have some problems with our trailers, especially in summer when roads are full of tourists. Personally I don't think I could do it in places like busy cities etc. But in Highlands it's not that bad 🙂 I'm on a hookloader with the same company, however I'll have good memories of being on skips. The good thing is that anyone can order a skip anywhere, so plenty of different destinations. And having our own landfill site, we cover a massive area because we can offer skips cheaper than those who need to pay extra to move waste down south to Edinburgh Thank you for watching and commenting 👍

I've been a skip driver for 4 months now... Thing is it really depends entirely on the company you work for and the workload they expect. You can get the truck in most places if you take your time, they are very small, one thing to consider with the work though is There are a lot of things that can go wrong, like chains getting stuck, skips getting stuck together, parked cars and site access, difficult customers, just to name a few, If you have an understanding employer all of this is fine. Unfortunately though a lot of them are not.

I fully agree, it's not the easiest job to do it's hard to get a driver who will stick for a while. However Highlands makes it a bit more fun 😊 thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼

What a amazing landscape! yes, the roads are narrow, but its still better than spending your life on motorways, I guess. At least you can go home after you knocked off every day, and dont have to sleep in the truck.

There is a very large difference between driving up there on the Isle of Skye and in parts of large cities, such as London or Birmingham. Some days must be very difficult in those situations.

Yes I can imagine that it is a completely different ballgame in London or such places. Big cities as well as Highlands can be challenging, (perhaps for different reasons) but I wouldn't change this area for anything 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting 😊👍🏼

@RocketTrucker2 жыл бұрын

How are you finding the Waste Logics system? Just been looking into so we can go paperless.
@RocketTrucker2 жыл бұрын
It works well as long you have a good network coverage in your area. If you choose to put it in the work phones make sure you choose a network provider with at least 3G coverage. It is handy, especially when you save location so another driver can easily find a skip. Thanks for watching 👍🏼😊

@@RocketTrucker - Of course everything has good and negative sides, I was just wondering what the negatives would be? I don't see many for a skipper other than awkward drops / collection. I presume a lot of people getting into skip work come to these sort of videos. There's a company near me constantly looking for skip class 2 drivers. I plan on going from car to C+E next year and getting my toes wet with class 2 work.
@RocketTrucker2 жыл бұрын
@@lukey3507 sometimes skips are overloaded (see part 2 of that video 🤣), people ordering big skips and filling them up with rubble or something like that. If I don't want to take it, then they go mad, that's not nice. And if you like big cabs, you won't get it on skips, skip trucks are usually small day cabs, with small engines We cover a big distance because we have our own landfill (so we can give better prices), but I've heard that in big cities, driving a skip lorry is boring and frustrating. So my perspective from Highlands can be different
