The Tappan Zee bridge is about 25 miles north of nyc. And nobody in NYS or nyc calls it by that name except the insane nyc radical liberals that forced that name change.

I’ve only been in NYC once. I crossed the Hudson on the Tappan Zee going into the Bronx and left by way of the GW. My brother and family lived north of NYC. My sister in law grew up there. So it was a good visit. Reloaded shower curtain and headed back west.

I think it is also interesting that driving on different levels or bounds of those bridges and tunnels would be a very different experience. The best example for me is Queensboro Bridge, upper level, lower level & lower level outer lane, you can definitely feel different road quality, and notice different exits and ramps connected to each of them. It is good when you know where you are heading to, it is bad when your GPS cannot tell which level you are in :)

Turn on precise location while using the app or set to ask and regular location service needs to be set while using the app and ask when the app is closed or else Your maps apps will freak out and keep saying recalculating and end your trip

Only about 15 miles separates the Tappan Zee Bridge 47:57 at the Hudson’s widest point and the Bear Mountain Bridge 51:07 at its narrowest point south of Albany. The river narrows to a quarter mile in its deep cut through the Ramapo Mountains and then quickly opens up to a width of 3 miles in the Tappan Zee!

Below the area of the Tappan Zee bridge the Hudson river is a tidal estuary, meaning that salt water reaches that far up at high tide.

Sweet and Sentimental Journey. Crossed most of them. I lived down the street from the GW Bridge, across from the Bridge Apartments (610 W 178th St) My dad used to walk us across to Palisades Amusement Park. I lived in New York most of my life, so I crossed all those bridges and went through all the tunnels. But there are 10 more smaller bridges that link Manhattan and The Bronx. I've only been on 4 of them. McCombs, Third Avenue, Willis Avenue, and Madison. Never needed to cross into the city further north. I once drove over Madison Avenue Bridge and I missed the entry into FDR Drive. I drove through a burnt-out section of Harlem, in the middle of the winter, until I hit the 90s. That was quite an adventure.

I often wonder why in some cases the tunnel was the choice while in other spots building a bridge was the way to go.
@markterribile69482 ай бұрын
Politics in some cases. Robert Moses preferred building bridges because they are visible for miles. But the earliest long vehicular tunnel anywhere is the Holland Tunnel. Holland figured out how to ventilate a tunnel full of internal combustion engines.

The Outerbridge Crossing isn't so named because it's the outermost waterway crossing (it is) but because it was named after a highway official named "Outerbridge." He insisted it not be called the "Outerbridge Bridge."
@dtxspeaks268 Жыл бұрын
Not to sound rude, but why are the Bear Mtn, Pulaski Skyway and Tappan Zee/GMC bridges on here? They aren't NYC (in fact BMB is closer to Upstate than the city.). Also where's the Anne Hutchinson Parkway Bridge that connects the Bronx to both Pelham and New Rochelle? Othan that, this was a cool video.😮
@markterribile69482 ай бұрын
To fully appreciate the Pulaski Skyway you should look at it in satphotos or G Earth. It stretches over the landscape and two rivers like a giant prehistoric dragon.
@markterribile69482 ай бұрын
You've omitted two major Harlem River Crossings: the (not George) Washington Bridge connecting Manhattan and the Bronx at street level and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge which carries I95 across the Harlem River. The Alexander Hamilton Bridge connects with I87 (the Major Deegan Expressway) in a multi-helix interchange with 13 levels--actually two intertwined interchanges, one connecting low-level streets and railroads and the other connecting the two interstates and the Bronx street grid. 40°50'43"N 73°55'31"W .

You shouldn't have included the Pulaski Skyway, Bear Mtn. Bridge, and Tappan Zee Bridge (twice) as they aren't in New York City, and instead covered the Cross Bay Bridge and Marine Pkwy.
