Driving and Drone Flying In Landmannalaugar - The Bumpiest Road in Iceland

Not just spectacular and colourful highland nature but this tour is also a good overview that demonstrates the condition of the Landmannalaugar road during the worst case scenario in 2024 and what type of cars made it all the way. The road was however fixed shortly after my visit.
The route on Google Maps: www.google.com...
Drive into the nearby caldera: • Driving and Drone Flyi...
Laugavegur Hiking Trail: www.mountaingu...
General Tourist service in the region: gyg.me/yrVzlA2W
It’s possible to drive a bit further to Hrafntinnusker but this was in the afternoon and it was more urgent to use the little sunlight I got every now and for drone flying since the 2023 tour didn't deliver what I hoped for as for light.
I intend to make a full information video about this volcano but it’s only possible with the interview format since this is a complicated system and it’s not for me to do it justice as for the geology. So the drive & drone around is just an extra feature to my full coverage this winter. but the English Wiki page is however quite good for beginners so I'm leaving a link to it:
en.wikipedia.o...
Feel free to comment on the form i'm using for this video, especially the choice of music and how i’m adding drone footage to the tour to explain the landscape better. The “epic style ending” was actually not planned, i just felt like that after all this magnificent landscape, and i have still plenty more to show you.

I once hiked in Island, and came through Landmannalaugar. Beautiful place and scenery, but somehow what I remember most was a lake around there with water so clear and still that I could not tell where the water edge was. It was so see-through that it was almost "not there". Amazing. Never seen anything like it.

Thank you. Makes me wonder what people looked liked before we got all caught up in making ourselves look a certain way... blah, blah, blah. Thanks again for taking the time to make such things available for any who is looking! I cannot say Thank you enough! Takk fyrir! The music fits nicely, as well. I am silent with amazement at the utter desolate beauty of Iceland, with every film you post it just keeps getting better. I'm now not able to travel far or hike any longer but your films make it feel like I am there, with you. You must have pretty good shock absorbers on your vehicle and a sturdy gimbal for your camera. I was surprised how busy the road was, despite the potholes. I do love the mix of the ground journey combined with the bigger overview from the drone, both together it really does feel as if I am there and, to be honest, I was so spellbound by the scenery that I hardly noticed the soundtrack! Thank you.

Fantastic video, thanks for bringing back great memories! In 1992, my friend and me hiked from Skogafoss first to Thórsmörk and then on to Landmannalaugar. From there we took a bus back to the coast road and I don't know how it happened, but our bus left the road and nearly ended up on its side. No-one got hurt and we all managed to get out and wait for a tractor to pull the bus back onto the road. We then continued our journey as if nothing had happened!!

Thank you, Alex, for giving Gylfi the incentive to make this and other similar videos, and thank you, Gylfi, for making this video. This does raise a question, however. Is it possible for handicapped people to hike? As a senior, using a walker I am accostumed to walking a mile or more daily. I don't see anyone who is handicapped in an obvious way out hiking in your videos. Is that not common there?

On the way back Siggy showed us the beautiful lake '"Ljóti pollur" and some amazing blue coloured waterfalls such as "Sigöldugljúfur" or " Sigöldufoss" Hope they won't realize the plans making of it a big tourism place.
