This is not me filming. I was stuck on post somewhere after being sold to camp guard for several months. Most of the dudes in this video belonged to 3/5. The rest were just unlucky dudes like me.

Thanks for this footage. That ride along the fence line was exactly what I needed to prove service connected spinal injuries and and an exacerbated hemorrhoid from more than 30 years ago. Semper Fi

When I WAS AT Hansen in 71 the barracks were all one floor affairs and looked better than the monstrosities in your video. Thanks for the update.

I was stationed at Camp Hansen back in Nov77. There were no big buildings back then. Okinawa just started driving on the LEFT side. Hundreds of Mainland cops were all over the place directing traffic. I loved driving on the wrong side of the road with that ambulance. By the way, I was a corpsman with the BAS 9th MTBN 3d FSSG way back then.

HAHAAAA!! YES!! I was stationed at Kinser with 3rd MRB from Feb 02-Feb03! I was on the Motor Transport Mechanics 3rd Echelon Contact Team. We use to go to Hansen, Schwab, Futenma, and Foster on a daily basis and fix HMMWVs! I would be damn surprised if we haven't met! Semper Fi Leathernuts! Thanks for the great memories!

2:24 - 2:27 That was the 9th ESB Comm Platoon shop back in the day (1990-1991)in between the white van and the two Humvees, AKA my old workplace! I was a 2841 (Ground Radio Repairman) and fixed the gear in the Tech cage on the left just as you walked in the door. I'm still in touch with several of my fellow Comm Dogs through Facebook. Thanks for posting this video!

Same! Feb02-03 Kinser. Loved it for the first 2-3 months. Got homesick for about 4mths, then had a lot of fun, but still couldn't wait to leave Okitraz. Now I can't imagine my life without going back at LEAST once more. Bitter sweet. Sure miss it

@@Echo_5_Charlie I wanted to do another year there cause u can see a lot of that part of the world. But I wanted to take leave and go home. But my god I couldn’t imagine flying home over the pacific then 2-3 weeks later do it again

@@retepoteil Man you're not kidding!! That is the LONGEST flight I've ever taken. I think it was a longer flight of "in the air" than it took getting to Iraq. Horrible lol

@@Echo_5_Charlie lol on the way back to the states we hit some major turbulence that made my food fall off my tray. I looked at the guy next to me and we had hands. After a minute the turbulence stopped we were still holding hands. We looked at each other stop holding hands. Acting like tough guys. We both said I wasn’t scared lol

Crazy that my younger brother would be born in Okinawa a month after this video was shot. I would eventually be stationed at Kadena from 2019-2021.

Back when I was their , in 73-74 , the only road was highway 58 , if I got hat right , and you drove on the same side of the road as we did back in the states , it had just , become a country under Japans rule ! I was in camp Courtney , but the roads were all just narrow country roads , very few cars , a lot of military vehicles , little okinawan carts , and taxis , I drove a 66 dodge van , but the speed limit was no faster than 55 klms !

Have you seen the bases or island recently? Just curious. I just watched a video uploaded in 2020 and Gate 2 was a run down ghost town at 1700 on a Sat night. My heart is broke. They said the highlife days of 70s to the early 2000s is gone😞. The grass and weeds are growing up through the sidewalks and stuff. Looks so run down now
