As just a pointer for anyone who finds it useful, if you're getting blinded by the oncoming traffic, you can always see the side line of your lane, so you could look for that side line to keep driving straight.

Very good video. I am living in Hong Kong. 99% of the roads are well lit by street lamps here. Your video teaches what I need to note when driving on "dark" roads.

This video really helps! I had my licence for a year and 3 months after I’ve passed my test. Here’s another tip, if the headlights from oncoming car are giving too much glare to see past clearly, then you need to slow right down or even stop sometime. Try not to risk carry on driving when blinded as they might be a cyclist, pedestrian etc that we could hit. So if you can, if you’re blinded, just pull over and allow your eyes to return back to normal before continuing. Also, try not to flash your headlights at another oncoming car to dim their lights down as they might also can be blinded and they can lead to accidents. Hope this helps!😊

Great video, very easy to understand. I went out on some short stretches of country roads at night on my first 20/25 hours of my driving as a learner and it wasn't too bad, a bit daunting as a beginner though. Even though I never looked directly in the headlights of oncoming cars, the glare makes it hard to see ahead in the dark so I was on the full beams asap haha.
@MichaelFlatman3 жыл бұрын
11:13 The corner light markers on big vehicles can be very helpful when negotiating parked cars, can give way in plenty of time, as the glare form their headlights usually makes the size of the vehicle almost invisible. Helpful video anyway, I do agree with the 30mph dipped beams also.

I think with my lessons I have been very lucky, none of it was intentional it's just how it pans out, so far I have driven in the dark with pouring rain aswell as country roads in the dark with fog, I feel very grateful that I have been able to experience these with my instructor otherwise if I was on my own I have no idea what Todo, but with lockdown these videos are helping me with both my practical and theory knowledge, like with the first lockdown these videos knocked so much time off, thank you so much

I hate driving at night. I've just moved to the countryside and when cars are coming towards me, I find it hard to see if the (still unfamiliar) road ahead is curving etc. And then I usually end up hitting a pothole as well!
@ConquerDriving Жыл бұрын
It's definitely harder at night time. A lower speed increases safety when you can't see as far.
@jimmyjonga8048 Жыл бұрын
Good Luck keeping that distance from the car in front. As soon as you leave the distance someone will come in from your right and take up that space. Then you will try to slow down to leave a gap with the car who took up the space and there will be one behind you right up your back side badgering you even if you are going at the maximum speed allowed. Boxed in is what happens in reality. Especially if you have an L or P plate. They go nuts when they see those letters. Enjoy!
@ConquerDriving Жыл бұрын
I don't usually find it too difficult, occasionally I get badgered for keeping a safe distance but it's not all the time and I think the badger may not be the one to listen to.
@jimmyjonga8048 Жыл бұрын
@Conquer Driving I agree. I was merely sensitizing new drivers to the realities of being on the road compared to what should ideally happen. It does not happen all the time. You are correct in pointing that out. There are people who keep a good distance and give you space when they see your P or L plate, others are apathetic, and for a select few, it is like a red rag to a bull.

It's unfortunate that it's night when it usually happens, but slow down going through all villages/residential town areas. Give little horn honks for cats. My cat died to a truck driver in fog because she wasn't scared of cars, etc whatsoever being young and would walk out in front of them casually because other cars stopped for her in the daytime, so she had no fear and thought this was the 'car animal's normal behaviour to stop for her. It's beneficial for cats to fear cars.
@GR-kn7mt3 жыл бұрын
Apart from animals I also hate driving at night because of bends. Many times can't use high beam, only just low beams and to catch the best curve on the bend is quite tricky especially with older cars equipped with non-xenon non-LED lights...

Would help if all the cat's eyes were working, thought they were self cleaning but there are long stretches on some roads with no reflection. Sometimes wonder if it's policy to remove them. Also unlit stretches of motorway are unforgivable.

It can be harder to judge distance with the glare from lights. I can only say be more careful, signal and only move if you're sure it's safe. Dimming the mirror can also help.

Did you mean to leave your car in 5th gear at 30 mph? I guess your car has very short gears!
@dougscott70793 жыл бұрын
Petrols are generally quite happy in 5th at 30, believe it or not! Avoid it on hills or in hazard-rich areas though.
@preussen5773 жыл бұрын
My car is a petrol and although I would never do it, the car isn't going to stall even if I selected 5th gear at 25 mph. I find that 4th gear is usually best for 30 mph in my petrol though. I think in a diesel car there is less flexibility with the gears from my experience when I was learning in a diesel.
@ConquerDriving3 жыл бұрын
All cars are different. I've driven a diesel Rav 4 that would only accept 3rd gear at 30mph yet my MX5 asks me to select 6th at 30mph even up a small hill and it's fine.
