After I passed my test last year I kept putting off driving in the dark but decided one night I had to drive and had a ticket to a concert in Wolverhampton 15 miles away. I left it so late that I had no other way to get there other than driving and just went for it and was absolutely fine. I even broke down on the way home but dealt with it and got the car started and got home. Still not sorted all my issues with driving but know I’ll get there, that night drive definitely boosted my confidence.

I'm looking at the world being not nice and feel people are not nice I get bitter and frustrated with my self. I would like to know how you got to point of what happened to you in your life of coming to my problem of speed and other drivers. Can you reply to me please.

I drive at night because of shift work. Unavoidable. I don’t mind it tbh. What I don’t like is driving at dusk….maybe because people without auto headlights don’t bother turning them on…I’m not sure.

People I work with have problems that go far deeper than just not liking it though. I appreciate your input and I'm not saying this applies to you but sometimes people misunderstand my work. My clients have panic attacks when it gets dark which can produce extreme physical reaction. Their hands sweat, their heart races and they feel sick. Sometimes they pass out, vomit or have an overwhelming urge to get out of the car at any cost. Many say they are tempted to jump out while travelling at any speed, or to park it on a fast highway and run. Leaving their car is all they can think of, no matter what the cost or consequences. This then seeps into other areas of their life and they suffer the same feelings when walking down the street or entering busy shops. They become unable to drive even in the day, even unable to sit in a car when it's still without having a meltdown. Anyone who's been through this knows how hard it is to get people to understand. It's more than just a dislike or a little problem, it's something that takes over their whole life and ruins everything. That's why I do what I do.

My fear at night is someone being on my side of the road, feeling like I can’t see properly when someone is coming the other way, and that I can’t see far enough for where I can pull over when the panic comes. Is this the sort of thing you hear Paul?

Yes, that's just your imagination making you believe nonsense. What you believe is real, whether it's real or not.
