Detroit! The Paris of the West. You'll just never find architecture like this. The wide plazas and overall walkability of the city is simply amazing. The mix of art deco and parisian is unmatched, to the almost cyberpunk aesthetic of the Renaissance Center and its surrounding skyscrapers. Really there is no city like it. Clickbait aside of Detroits "abandonment", the city has had a comeback one could only dream of in the past 10 years. You cannot love/appreciate architecture or cityscapes in general without loving Detroit.

You really can't see the Packard plant demolition from the street. You need a drone view to see what is going on with the demolition. No explosions or wrecking ball are being used, to protect the adjoining property. Just a slow and gradual demolition. A very serene view to me.

And what's even better is the original William Durant 1921 General Motors building in the New Center district. Really, Detroit is known for being a city built in the 1920's. The old GM was the world's second largest building by square footage when completed. Unfortunately, most people are familiar only with the core downtown and never see the many other districts of Detroit, or those of the immediate, surround older towns.

Well not sure if you've actually been inside, but the inside is just as impressive. Massive pillars and the circular internal design is beautiful. At least it was back in 2014 when I last visited. I believe it's a hotel ? But yea its a shame they didn't invest more in the surrounding areas and build it up a bit more@@thebestchannel5456

I really enjoyed this excellent video. I heard that Detroit was 'coming back' and looking at the city center, it certainly looks to be true. So nice to see many of the old high rise office buildings, a lively entertainment district, plenty of large open spaces with green grass (probably where many buildings once stood). It could have been a gloomy ride in the rain, but in my opinion, it was anything but. And it certainly isn't the image of Detroit that I had in my head. I have a new, optimistic image for Detroit, and I would definitely visit there if I lived closer. I assume you recorded this video on a Sunday? The traffic flow wasn't the greatest. One last question: how do you mange to keep rain off of your camera lens? Thank you J Utah! 👍 EDIT: Now that I have finished watching the entire video, I must revise my optimism! The industrial/residential area surrounding the former Packard complex is horrendous. The streets look like something from a third-world country. Yeah, *this* is, sadly, the Detroit image that I have had in mind.

No, its not sewer at all. The very old part of downtown were/is heated by an underground steam system. Some buildings are still connected to it. Its part of a thermal system that we've had for almost 100 years. I think its about 30 or 40 miles all together. The stacks are for safety - and there used to be ALOT of vents - it was something that you got used to walking around downtown. There's some areas around the Fort St. post office and some in the WSU area that don't have stacks. If a homeless person was lucky enough they would sleep over a vent that was leaking some of the steam...I remember that, growing up.
