Hello everyone, and welcome back to another video. Today, we will be driving from Manteca, CA to Merced, CA, while traveling along CA-99 South in the San Joaquin Valley, which is known as the Golden State Highway or Pacific Highway in California! CA-99 is a major north-south freeway that runs within almost all of California's central valley. The route's northern end begins at CA-36 near Red Bluff and runs all the way till its southern end at Wheeler Ridge, where the freeway meets I-5 before the Tejon Pass. Construction of CA-99 completed in 1926 as part of the US highway US-99, and was initially one of the first routes to run from the Canada border, all the way to the Mexico Border, for a total of 1499 miles! However, once the construction of Interstate 5, spanning from the same northern and southern endpoints as US-99 completed in 1964, US-99 in California was renamed to the CA-99 based on the state highway system. Since then, much of the nearly 754 miles of CA-99 in California is designated as a freeway. As we drive this stretch of CA-99 to Merced, we pass through many major Central Valley cities, such as Modesto and Turlock. So, I hope you enjoyed this 4k scenic drive in the San Joaquin Valley, and please leave a like and subscribe to AKTheTraveler for more awesome road trips!
