The "leather" on many modern car wheels is very rough, and dries out, or gets worn due to age. If you have dry, or colder, hands the grip is not as good as it could be, and you will know the difference when you try on good gloves with a tight fit, and soft leather. For a brand new car, the grip is usually very good, but if you drive a car that is a few years old, driving gloves really help with grip. Basically, they still have a use today, especially as so many modern "cheap" cars have adopted tighter, sportier steering that is less forgiving. Bought a pair of the red Fort Belvedere driving gloves - they are an amazing fit, and grip modern plastic, vinyl, and leather steering wheels very well, not just old wooden ones as some here have described.

I've been using fingerless versions for years although technically they aren't fully fingerless as they end at the second knuckle, I just prefer the fingertips free for better tactile feel. On a cold morning they are a god send and are incredibly kind on my Steering wheel which looks far better than similar M cars with lower milage potentially because of this and the grips perfect for hard cornering.

It’s funny I own several sports cars but no driving gloves lol I’m a huge car enthusiast and you’re correct gloves were more essential when cars were new. They were dangerous, they required you crank the engine by hand, the brakes were mechanical and often only on the rear wheels, they had zero safety elements whatsoever, and racers would regularly die on the track. But boy are they romantic and elegant!

I also wonder why there were no mention of the kind of knitted top driving gloves popular in the 50's and 60's and used by racing drivers like Stirling Moss. The knuckle holes are to keep glove from being too tight, when you wrap you hand around the wheel. You guys should know that, haha.. it's also why the holes should line up with your knuckles... you're welcome.

I have 3 euro driving gloves from china😂 it sounds cheap but they help me to protect my steering wheel from my sweating hands. Its so disgusting to put your wheels on a sticky wheel 😒...those 3 euro gloves may not be the best ones but they work for me. The main reason was my sweating hand, not style or race driver attitudes so they didnt have to be expensive.

Here is my one tip for driving gloves - if you have a vehicle worthy of wearing driving gloves in, wear driving gloves. Do you have a Jaguar e-Type or a 356 or another variation of equally cool vehicle? You get to wear driving gloves. Do you drive a Honda Civic or Kia Soul? Don't even think about it.
