This is a bit of a tidbit yes. Funnily enough, if you went back in time maybe 50 years - you may not see so much as a single wooden fence around those areas. (old photos and film might be here on YT) but once you get to a horrific mass-murder incident, 'the skippies' (think aggressive hobos dressed like hippies) then the violent 70s drug/porn incidents and finally: When it became highly valuable hot property where a whole lot of big Disney, radio execs, cashed-out boomers and you can't touch a place up there without proof of 1 million a year income type of place. That's when serious fences became very real walls. Yes, you may be told they are "retaining walls" but that doesn't explain why they're 7ft tall above the ground lol.

This is very interesting. I've seen some of these houses, I'm sure, splashed lavishly in the pages of Architectural Digest and the like. I always imagined that the roads (palm lined boulevards, in my imagination) leading to the mansions were equally lavish and picture-perfect. Reality is much more prosaic. While the view over Laurel Canyon is lovely and the lush plantings gorgeous, the road in front of my little anonymous midwestern house is, I think, wider and in better condition, and after reading the Wikipedia article about the Wonderland murders, I believe my neighbors are overall easier to live next to. After this little tour, I'm looking around my digs and counting my blessings! I appreciate this glimpse of Hollywood Hills. Thanks for filming! I'd thoroughly enjoy a narrated version also.

Try riding a bike up into those hills. Don’t think so , at least I’m not in that kind of shape. People do walk on these roads but frankly, many of these properties are deceiving in size and offer quiet comfortable country (style) living with actual nature and wildlife surrounding you. The mud in the road is obviously from one of the many storms LA has gotten the last couple of years. The sheer magnitude of roads to repair from recent rain damage is incalculable but I see them out there trying to. The hills are always the last to get repaired. I drive up in these areas all the time. It’s actually quite beautiful, at least to drive through. Some hillside areas more than others but there are many across the LA region. I happen to live in one in the NE pocket near Pasadena. It’s beautiful. Moved here from NYC 20 years ago and I love it.

Los Angeles is one of the few cities that has a mountain range running right through the middle of it. Due to its topography and desirabable location, the Hollywood Hills doesn't have unlimited land usage to work with. Space is at a premium here.. Thus, you won't see alot of setbacks nor sidewalks lining its hilly, narrow winding roads. Every major city is unique.

I have to say two things; a nice overall shot, very real, without having to wait for a good day, but it also needs to be said about the places that I thought were best, both landscape-wise and geologically. There is an impressive possibility of landslides and, given the highly seismic area, many houses look like they are made of cardboard. I sincerely expected a more dignified, balanced, less speculative urbanization, given the very high price of building in these places. In the center of the valley the houses are very much in the shade, too close to the others and very exposed to the mud and the fury of tree debris. I hope this video will push various urban planners to take urgent and targeted measures.

As a child of the sixties, involved in the music scene, it breaks my heart to see this beautiful place that represented freedom FROM the establishment become an enclave OF the establishment. What was once "liberals" has evolved to progressives who have taken this beautiful place and made it a ward of the state. The democratic party has tasted the "good life" and embraced it to become a party of power, not deeds. The hypocrisy of the left has evolved from a foundation of peace and love into a foundation of power and lust. Look at ANY politician on the left and you will see a wealthy, power driven shadow of the past. Their care for the disenfranchised has become smoke and mirrors as they have a lust for power. This beautiful, beautiful paradise has become a lair for evil. Gavin Newsom is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Satan IS the great deceiver and has lured the power of the people into the power of the elite..........

I don't care a $hit what the haters say. This place is beautiful man. There's a REASON why people flocked to SoCal for decades, till now. Never been here. And to me, it almost makes you wanna cry what crazy Leftist Liberal policies have done to this state. Place reminds me of Greece in so many ways. Mudslides , earthquakes - well, there's a con to everything. I've lived in the geographically monotonous and boring Boston area my whole life and....woods , woods and more woods! Well, whoopdeedamndoo! Thanks for the video!

i was in LA working on a Documentary Film and drove all through this area. Way too cramped and congested for me. I prefer Holmby Hills.

No pubs in the hills that I know of. All residential homes.

Lovely views. What looks very strange to European eyes is the absence of sidewalks. In Europe you would expect to be able walk around these streets. It seems very strange people are trapped in their homes unless they have a car.
@omwpov9 ай бұрын
People don't walk in this area. There aren't any stores or shops near by to walk to. Thanks for watching!
@JJFlores1976 ай бұрын
I get what you're saying. But I can assure you that the people who can afford these homes are not interested in walking around the streets.

So this is what the famous Laurel Canyon looks like. That would be a place to have an electric car with regenerative braking, otherwise you're getting your brakes hot every day, and wearing the transmission too.

What a car-centric hell-scape and traffic prison. There is no place for a pedestrian to walk or a person on a bicycle to ride.
